My Thomas Lineage
By Randall S. Treadway

Welcome to my Thomas Lineage Page. I have been working on this line for a few years now. I have received various informative data from many new found cousins, and on my last two trips to North Carolina. I would like to thank you all. My Thomas lines as far as I able to tell come from Rutherford Co., North Carolina. However, Scott Wright's info on Minzey Thomas takes us further back to Virginia. I believe the information below is correct, but if you find any discrepancies or if you would like to add to the lineage, please email me.   I would like to thank Jan Plemmons, Rich Nallenweg, Dan Slagle, Randall Davis, Shirley Treadway and so many others for their wonderful contributions to this site.   I hope you find the information helpful to you. Thank you for dropping by. Enjoy.

Please remember each bit of information found here, or elsewhere, must be researched and proved or disproved by weight of evidence by you, the researcher.

Descendants of Peter Thomas

*Peter Thomas was born ca 1791-1800 in North Carolina. Peter married Martha Patsey Stice, on 20 November 1820 in Rutherford Co., North Carolina. Patsey was born ca 1801 in Rutherford Co., North Carolina, the daughter of Phillip (A.?) Stice and Mary Haynes.Their family was listed in the 1830 Buncombe Co., North Carolina Census with 2 males under 5, 1 male 5-9, 1 male 30-39, 1 female 5-9, and 1 female 20-29. I could not find Peter and his family in the 1840 Buncombe Co., North Carolina Census records, but I do believe that it was his family in the 1840 Yancey Co., North Carolina Census as the ages do match up with 2 males under 5, 2 males 5-9, 2 males 10-14, 1 male 15-19, 1 male 40-49, 1 female 15-19, and 1 female 30-39. They were next listed in the 1850 Buncombe Co., North Carolina Census states that Peter was born in North Carolina and he was 51 years of age, the 1860, Madison Co., North Carolina Census, states he was born in South Carolina, and was 52 years of age, and the 1870 Twp 1, Madison Co., North Carolina Census stating he was born in 1814 in North Carolina, and lastly the 1880 Marshall, Madison Co., North Carolina Census states that he was born in North Carolina and was 75 years of age. Peter and Patsey were listed in the 1880 Marshall, Madison Co., North Carolina Census, living with J. M. and Catherine S. Ramsey. Peter and Patsey died sometime after the 1880 Census was taken. I have not been able to find their final resting place, however, in one of the Cemeteries of Madison Co., North Carolina books, written by Jan C. Plemmons, state that there was an old abandoned cemetery that the Thomas family used to use to bury their kin in. This cemetery is called Grassy Creek Hilltop Cemetery in Madison Co., North Carolina. There are no headstones there, but their son Noah is buried there. I am therefore thinking that this may be their resting place.

Note: For years I have believed that Dorothy "Dolly" Thomas was Peter's sister. My DNA results state that she is my 4th Great Aunt, making her Peter's sister. She married Nathaniel Davis. Dolly's parents were Minzey and Mary Thomas. I had not published this information online until I could find a little more evidence. Well, today I accidentally found a deed for Peter and was thrilled. Peter purchased 100 acres of land on the North East side of the French Broad River on the branches of Juels Branch on 18 Nov 1816 in Buncombe Co., North Carolina and proved on 05 Dec 1818. Also on the same day he purchased 50 acres of Land on both sides of Warm Springs Road. To make a long story short Minzey Thomas was one of the witnesses on that deed for Peter and Minzey also purchased land there. On 22 Dec 1824 Minzey purchased 50 acres of land adjoining Peter's land. Minzey was also two doors down from Peter in the 1830 Census. Although this is not proof of much of anything, I am adding this new information. I would like to thank Scott Wright for mentioning Minzey to me, thus peeking my curiosity and looking for information on Minzey again. I do believe that it seems that Peter's parents were Minzey Thomas and Mary ____.
