This area has had a "Veng" partial inner-wing welded in to replace the original. Although the only area of concern was where it was welded to the heater channel, it was thought best (and stronger) to replace the whole area with new metal | |
The heater channels were reasonably solid when I bought the car, but the internal pipe-work had rotted badly so they were both replaced. This is a very costly operation. I don't recommend anyone to do this unless absolutely necessary. | |
This is the chassis I intend to
use. It is from a 1969 semi-automatic Beetle and has torsion beam front and independent
rear suspension - I'm told this is the ultimate standard set-up for a Beetle. As you can see, there are no swing-axles. The rear is similar to that of the 1302 / 1303 models. I believe there was a USA-only model with this set-up which had a manual gearbox (transmission) |
