It's Minime! (no, I didn't see that movie, I refuse to)

This isn't really a rant, it's just a review.  But what can I say, I'm just one of those crazy people who actually likes the translated manga.  I thought it was cute, okay?  Even though it was (so I've heard) Americanized and used a lot of slang (shortening words, like "you" to "u").  And even though Mixx has been screwing over Moonies and is using us to sell its new (stupid) magazine, Smile.  But that isn't to say that I didn't like the manga.
I really did think the translated manga was cute.  Although they had to use the DiC names for the scouts because of legal purposes (except for Serena, they had Serena be her real name and Bunny be her nickname, that was cute).  But they did keep the original manga attack names (like Moon Tiara Magic was called Moon Frisbee, Raye's scroll attack was kept as Akuryou Taisan, etc.) and the original names for the villains too (they spelled them correctly, yay!  No more of this "Neflyte, Zoycite" stuff!).  And, I've heard that the manga was more faithfully translated than the DiC...um...adaption.  One part that I didn't like though, was that whenever the scouts want to transform, or when Bunny uses her disguise pen, they call it "morphing."  Reminds me of the Power Rangers.
I guess part of the credit goes to Naoko-sensei.  Her work was, I'm sure, great to begin with.  So even if Mixx screwed it over, it still came out really well.  The artwork is, in a word, fabulous.  Plus, I liked the "Notes from Naoko" section that was in almost every act...those were a cute kind of personal touch, you know? (even though they're out of date, making it seem like Naoko just moved to a new house recently instead of in 1992 when the original was released).
My favorite act of the translation was Act 4, Masquerade (I just noticed...Princess D without her glasses on looks a lot like Hotaru, doesn't she?).  I also liked Act 3, the one where Raye was introduced, although that was probably just because they kept Akuryou Taisan as the name for her scroll attack and didn't call it something stupid like "Mars Fireballs Charge."  I have to say I wasn't too terribly impressed with Act 5, where Jupiter was introduced, and I liked her introduction better in the anime.
All in all, my opinion of the Mixx manga is that it's pretty good.  Cute too (how many times have I said that?).  It's got its good and bad points, like everything else.  And you know what else?  I can hardly wait for Volume 2.  I'm just one of those crazy people who likes translated anime and manga, so what can I say.
