Ischia is the largest of the Phlegrean islands in the Gulf of Naples and has a privileged geographical postition. The beautiful landscape and beaches, the luxiuriant pine woods, vineyards, chestnuts- and citrus groves have made it famous as "the Green Island."

The island has almost 50,000 inhabitants and is divided into six communities:

Barano d'Ischia
Casamicciola Terme
Forio
Ischia
Lacco Ameno
Serrara Fontana

The island offers sea-bathing, thermal cures and pleasant walks up to the peak of Mount Epomeo (790 m).

"Out to Sea with the Sun"

I was sitting along the docks of Casamicciola as they prepared fireworks for a festival (I never did get the name of the festival). Looking toward the shore, with the sun's rays reflecting off the water, I saw this boat approaching and simply waiting for it to get in my line of site.

"Fish Stories"

This shot reminds me of the 'Far Side' cartoon of the three spiders sitting on the porch reminiscing of the old days when the insects would fly into their webs.

"On the Wall"

A wonderful contrast of colors and lights. With all the garlic and other herbs on that wall my mouth watered as to the thing I could be cooking...

"The Statue of Mary"

An interesting shot, and what appears to be symbol of their religious belief as this statue overlooks the docks at Casamicciola.

"Alone on the Beach"

The shot was originally a color one, but the red sweater the old man was wearing just didn't have the same effect as this black and white shot.
