It was April of 1999 when I made my way to Gettysburg.

It was something I wanted to do after I found out I was moving to Virginia. After all, it's only about a 2 and a half hour drive from Edinburg.

As a history buff, and after a visit to Normandy Beach earlier in the year, it was only appropriate to visit the American battle site.

Before going to Gettysburg, try to watch the movie with Martin Sheen, Tom Berringer, and Sam Elliott. As the film was shot in Gettysburg, you'll get a better sense of what happened when you actually stand on the site where Robert E. Lee had his headquarters, Little Round Top, the calvary engagement north of the town between George Custer and J.E.B. Stuart, Pickett's Charge and the spot where Abraham Lincoln gave his Gettsburg Address.

And when you're done with that, there's a great restaurant in the center of town... Forgot what it's called, but the enttrance has a blue canopy. The cajun cooking there was great.
