In Greek mythology, when Perseus cut off Medusa's
head, the blood sinking into the earth produced Pegasus.
Pegasus sprang from the gorgon's blood, and was caught
and tamed by Minerva, who later presented him to the
Muses. The fountain Hippocrene, on the Muses' mountain,
Helicon, was opened by a kick from his hoof.

Tamed with a golden bridle given to Bellerophon by
Minerva, Pegasus helped to defeat the Chimaera.
Bellerophon also battled other trials in his quest
to marry. But Bellerophon drew down the anger of the
gods when he attempted to fly up to heaven itself.
The king of of gods and men, Jupiter, sent a gadly to
sting Pegasus. Bellerophon was thrown to the ground,
and wandered ever after, lame, blind, and lonely, the
Aleian field, avoiding the paths of men.

Pegasus is a winged steed. They are huge and majestic.
Sometimes a unicorn and pegasus will breed, creating
offspring called Alicorns.
As with the unicorn, Pegasus is usually solid black
or white, with wing feathers of various colors,
although usually matching.

A Pegasus would rather fly than walk, but have been known
to engage in hoof races with unicorns. Both are evenly matched,
although the Pegasus likes to brag that they win more often.
