| Ritsuko Akagi, the brains of NERV. She has been with NERV ever since the creation of the Evas. She creates diagnostic programs for the MAGI system, and manages the activation tests and synchronization tests. Her mother has worked at NERV before her, and was the creator of the MAGI system, volunteering for a personality transplant into the 3 super computers. Akagi, unlike most NERV personal, has tallied up a victory for herself, defeating an angel that infiltrated NERV and contaminated the MAGI system. With the help of the MAGI systems programming notes and Maya, her "sidekick" she programmed the angel into an evolutionary dead end. Hints say that her and Kaji had something going together in the past, something Misato could be aware of. Knowing more than it seems, she is probably under-wrap about the whole Eva project, Human Instrumentality, and Adam. A crucial character, without her I'm not sure NERV would run as "smoothly" as it does. | |
| fShinji Ikari, the 3rd child and main character
of the series. He arrives at Tokyo-3 just
as the Third angel attacks. (NGE eps. 0:1)
Dodging scrap metal, he meets Misato, who was
scheduled to take him to NERV. The UN immobilizes the Angel with an N2-Mine,
and with the attack halted momentarily, Misato
takes Shinji to NERV. Shinji, when faced with Eva
Unit 01, completely freaks out. He sees his father for the first time in years, such and such. While arguing with his father about who the pilot will be for Unit 01, the Angel above them attacks, and debris is thrown at Shinji. The Eva, with power turned off and arms strapped down, broke loose and shielded Shinji from harm. After all is done, Shinji becomes the new pilot for the Eva, and goes to face off the Angel solo, with no prior experience. (Rei is unable to, she had an accident earlier, and cannot pilot.) And, even with a 43% sync ratio, Shinji get's his ass whipped by the Angel, and damage to Unit 01 is very bad. |

This is the guy who calls all the shots. Commander Ikari, head of NERV, Shinji's father, and a real uptight bastard. He calls his son back to Tokyo-3 for one reason only. To pilot Eva Unit 01. This man cares for for Unit 01 than his own son, also cares more for Rei than his own son. Strictly speaking, Rei is his "daughter" At least, that's how he treats her. His own motives are unknown by SEELE, "the guys upstairs" at NERV. His own intention though, seem to be evil. |
| Who Kaji works for is definitely unapparent. (Until Eva 0:11) He seems to be personnel on NERV, as well as a spy for the Japanese government. Knows about Adam, Instrumentality, and the secret behind the Maduk Institute. Him and Mist had something together 8 years before, and Kaji just doesn't quit. (With any woman) Misato, for some reason, seems to hate Kaji. |
