Subject: Message from the Chief Constable
.
It is with considerable regret and sadness that I must advise you of the
loss of Constable 1439 Kenneth M. Lemckert, who passed away at the age of
38, on Thursday,
.
Our friend and co-worker will be long remembered for his hard work and
initiative, dedication to duty and his good humour and exuberance for life.
.
In Constable Lemckert's twelve and a half year career with the Department,
he made significant contributions that are enduring and respected.
Ken was awarded one Chief Constable and two Deputy Chief Constable's Commendations.
These Commendations recognized his outstanding contributions
to the standardization of our Community Policing Centre agreements and policy
documents. His life saving actions during an attempted suicide, and
his selflessness and organizational strengths in volunteering to coordinate
the protocol for a Police and Peace Officers' Memorial Service are also
notable accomplishments.
.
Constable Lemckert was also awarded the Chief Constable R.J. Canuel Award
for Community Crime Prevention Excellence for his demonstrated leadership
in assuring community involvement in Policing and Crime Prevention initiatives.
.
Constable Lemckert worked in Patrol, the Deputy Chief Constable's Office
in the Operations Division, Planning & Research, and finally, the Dog
Squad, where he partnered with Police Dog "Duke."
.
Ken was also the Drill Sergeant Major for the Vancouver Police Ceremonial
Unit. He personally organized and directed the Unit's participation
in civic ceremonial functions.
.
Constable Kenneth M. Lemckert will be missed by all. Our heartfelt
wishes are sent to his family and many friends.
.
Terry E. Blythe
Chief Constable
