RAINN stands for Rape Abuse & Incest National Network. It is the countries first toll free 24-hour Rape Crisis hotline. Tori Amos founded RAINN in July of 1994 with funds from her record label and other corporations. All calls made to RAINN are confidential, and when a caller dials the 800 number they are connected to the closest crisis center to them. After that, all memory of the caller's number is erased. In 1997 Congress delcared May 16th RAINN Day and honored Tori for her work setting up a hotline using no government funds. Because of this, people such as Calvin Kline have teamed up with Tori to keep it running. In January of 97 a benefit concert was held at Madison Square Garden, and was aired on Lifetime Television. RAINN still needs contributions so visit www.rainn.org to see how you can help keep these desperately needed hotline running. Also, see how Thelma and Louise helped Tori write Me and A Gun, a song detailing her own rape.
