Vincennes Invitational

Butler's men's and women's swimming teams, idle since competing in Wisconsin three weeks ago, will return to action this weekend at the Vincennes Invitational. The eight-team meet will be held at the IUPUI Natatorium on Friday, Dec. 11, beginning at 5 p.m. Joining Butler and host Vincennes in the invitational will be the University of Indianapolis, Lewis University, DePauw University, Rose-Hulman Institute, Campbellsville University and IUPUI. Butler's women's swimming team, currently 3-5 on the season, has been paced this season by a trio of rookies. Freshman Anna Pecharich (Richmond, Ill.) owns the team's fastest times in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, while freshman Gina Sciortino (Maitland, Fla.) boasts team-best times in the 500 freestyle, 1000 freestyle and 100 backstroke. First-year swimmer Melinda Harrald (Arlington Hts., Ill.) boasts the squad's fastest times in the 100 breaststroke and the 200 breaststroke. The Butler men's team has also featured several strong freshmen performances. Rookie Brett Balhoff (Monclova, Ohio) owns the team's best times in the 500 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, 200 I.M. and 400 I.M. Freshman James Grimmer (Dunlap, Ill.) has team-best times in the 50 freestyle and the 100 freestyle.
