GRILLIN' WITH THE MOONMAN |
|
Because you have gone to all the trouble to come here, i am going to give you a few of my great grilling secrets and share some of my favorite recipes with you, so that you, too, can become known as the greatest griller on your block! |

The BEST Grill on the Market
Here it is folks! the best of any grill anywhere. The Weber Performer with built in ignition system gives you the taste of a charcoal grill with the convenience of gas. AND NO TASTE OF CHARCOAL LIGHTER!!! We have had gas, we have had charcoal, we have had electric even, not to mention the Jenn-Aire in the kitchen...but this is the one. Just bite the bullet and run to your neighborhood Brookstone and get it. Also found one at Home Depot but by the time you buy the cover included at Brookstone, they are the same price. And all in all, wouldn't you rather make the boys at Brookstone load it in your car for you than lug it to the truck yourself? They come in black, red, green, or blue.
For total grilling luxury, get yourself a smoker too. Although they say you can use your Weber for smoking, if you want to do both at the same time you can't beat having both. The smoker is a much slower process, but the flavor of a smoked turkey filet coovered in rosemary branches, or your own italian sausage without casings smoked to perfection will more than make up for the purchase price.
The BEST Barbeque Sauce
OK, you yankees, listen up! The best barbeque sauce is not, I repeat, NOT red. The best barbeque sauce your money can buy in all the world is yellow. For this North Carolina born product which has spread throughout the south, there is a source that even you Californians can access. Just go to the WWW and check out: http://www.mauricesbbq.com/ This stuff has a shelf life of like forever, because there is so much vinegar in the mixture, so go ahead and pop for the big bottle. It's available in several flavors (i.e. hickory, honey, spicy and yes, a ketchup based version) but we like the original the best. Ole Maurice even sells pre-barbequed meats for lazy butts and everything is conveniently able to be ordered online. They even sell whole turkeys, hams and pigs, pre-cooked for parties. For the computer challenged, just call: 1-800-MAURICE.
The
BEST OF THE MOON Grill Recipes

Italian Sausage by the Moonman For our friends who still live in Chicago - get SERIOUS! Go to Guido's or one of the great little Italian stores in Melrose Park and buy some sausage and consider yourself lucky. There is no substitute. But for those of us disadvantaged, not even ordering from Balducci's in New York (click to see their catalog and definitely order some Italian sweet peppers) could satisfy the flavor that we came to know and love. So we adapted this family recipe to be lower fat, and discovered that because it was, we could form it and smoke it without the casings (which Mary hates) with great results. Here's how you can do it too (this recipe makes plenty for the freezer too!) |

Baby Back Ribs When It Is Raining and You
Can't Go Outside To Grill This recipe was discovered and perfected when I was in college and lived with Phil Bakes (Hi Phil! Ruin anymore airlines lately?) and Kenne Wadas (who liked popcorn better than ribs)...hmmmmm why did I live with two lawyer types in a fraternity full of Bio majors?....anyway, it was then and remains a favorite with certain variations and you just have to be brave and believe me and eat all the trimmings. Mandatory: Serve with either Vidalia Onion RIngs or Mrs. Paul's onion rings. |

The Best Turkey You Ever Put in Your Mouth Sorry to all the moms out there who think this is going to be some Thanksgiving ode to women getting up at 4am to cook turkey, cause this one takes wayyyyy less time, and tastes wayyyyyy better, and you don't even have to keep basting it till you are blue in the face. |

Burgers Better Than You Can Make Trust me on this one! Have I ever led you astray? If you can't get to Come Back Inn, then the best fast burger you can ever lay your hands on is a Bubba Burger. Just because you can buy it at your supermarket Freezer's section doesn't make it bad. In fact, BUBBA burgers are a full 1/3 pound of juice 100% Choice Ground Chuck processed in a way to look home made, taste juicy, and able to be cooked faster than you can get a grill going. Just follow Bubba's cooking directions and toss em on the grill frozen (do not defrost), don't press em or turn em until juices are coming out the top, then flip em once and cook til desired doneness. It is the GREATEST! We get em at Sam's or Winn-Dixie. |
