What's New at THE POINT Our Landscaping Efforts |
|
Doris and I enjoy working outside, so we built a landscaping border, using 4" x 6" pressure-treated beams around the entire house. The beams delivered to hour house were 16 feet long, and quite heavy. The typical width of the enclosed border is about five feet. We then put a landscaping fabric down and covered the entire area with River Rock as mulching and to provide a base for the drip line. A total of about 15 tons of River Rock was used in this effort. This page is separated into two segments so it will load faster..... so don't miss the second page. |

On the right is the slate patio we built behind our house. It is 386 square feet, edged with 4 x 6 landscaping beams. It nestles up against the bulkhead built on the east side of the house to prevent erosion. Another view is shown below. |

On the right is a close up of the Oleanders (yellow) we planted in the area on the west side of the patio. They will grow into fairly large plants, blooming most of the summer. |

These are Rugosa roses (left). They are planted on the east side of the house. These are very hardy roses, growing rapidly and blooming all summer. They are very thorny and may eventually grow into a hedge along that side of the house. |

The following two pictures are at the rear or south side of our house. The picture on the left shows a slate walking path leading from the patio and continuing to the storage area (right). In the right picture you can see the edge of our garden. We raised herbs, tomatoes, tomatillios, and hot peppers.

The two pictures below are of the west side of the house. The one on the right is looking from the northwest corner back. We planted pampas and azaleas here. We framed out the northwest corner so it would be a large planting area. See more pictures of this area on the next page. |
