ANOTHER POINT OF VIEW

This is the Ocracoke Island Lighthouse.

Welcome to "Another Point of View," the personal side of The Point. While my website, The Point, emphasizes my Consulting and Support Services activities, this page and its links are purely family oriented. So if you want to get to know us a little, spend a few minutes here, checking out the connecting pages .... and pictures. Make sure you take a look at our "Roots."

Art and Doris Guyer

Here we are today.....

Doris [Kirkpatrick] and I married after we graduated from High School in Waynesboro, PA. We have two great children -- grown now, of course --; you will meet them later on the page.

Doris and Art.

While I went to Shippensburg University, in Pennsylvania, we both held jobs to get through. On graduation, in 1964, we moved to Alexandria, VA and I went to work for the US General Accounting Office in Washington, DC. In 1968, I went to work for the US Atomic Energy Commission and we moved to Gaithersburg, MD. I continued to work for the successor energy agencies, the US Energy Research and Development Administration and finally, the US Department of Energy. During my tenure there, I worked at both the Washington, DC and the Germantown, MD sites. Our family moved a couple of times during that period -- first to Frederick, MD and then, in 1986, Doris and I moved to Germantown, MD.

During our time in Maryland, Doris has worked as a manager of a women's clothing store, and for a number of child care providers. She really enjoyed working with children and they all loved her. She has a very nice collection of Boyd's Bears, so you might want to check out Doris's Bear page. Doris also is a Wizard of Oz fan.

The family has been coming to the Outer Banks of North Carolina since the early 1970's, first bringing a travel trailer down from Maryland and always staying at Rodanthe. Later we started renting cottages for our trips down to the "banks" we were falling in love with. In 1988, Doris and I decided we wanted to eventually move to the area permanently and bought a two-story condo at Sandpiper Cay in Kitty Hawk. Finally, in 1991, we bought a larger house a few miles up the road. On January 3, 1997, I retired from the Federal Government and we sold our Germantown house and moved to our home in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.

Doris and I both like to fish.

While on a deep-sea fishing trip last year, we encountered a school of tuna, feeding on the surface. When we got close to them, we could see sharks also feeding in the melee, as well as birds picking up floating pieces of fish.

We broke out the casting rods and threw plugs into the feeding tuna. It was quite a struggle when you hooked on to a good one.

Doris's White Marlin

On a different trip on the Country Girl, the charter boat we have been using, Doris fought this white marlin for 45 minutes and received a citation for the fish. It was released live, of course.

Doris and I also are collectors of a sort. Doris collects Barbie Dolls and Boyd's Bears (and Friends). I collect Santa figurines. Browse those sites for a look at our collections.

Doris, Taylor, and Talia love to walk on the beach (or sit on the beach) and look for shells and polished glass fragments.
