In terms of self-esteem, what we believe is
extremely important. There is no doubt that when we believe something is true
we behave as though it is (whether it is or not). These beliefs can be changed
but until they are, they often act as programs-much like in a computer. If we
have low self-esteem, it is only because we believe a lot of things that are
not true.
We do not have to become perfect to achieve
high self-esteem, we just have to have the courage to challenge the core beliefs
that make us think poorly of ourselves. This takes work, a certain amount of
self-awareness and persistence. Throwing off self-directed negativity does
take effort, but it is well worth it.
There is great worth, gleaming like the sun, within each of us.
It is very easy to conform to what your society or your parents and teachers tell
you. That is a safe and easy way of existing; but that is not living, because
in it there is fear, decay, and death. To live is to find out for yourself
what is true.
