Chapter 8 : A Week Later

Taylor was at work when a secretary came over the intercom
saying his mother was on the phone. Taylor told the band that he was
managing to take the rest of the day off.
"Hello?" Taylor answered, after picking up the phone.
"Hi Tay. I have some surprising news. They checked the dental
records and the girl in the coffin wasn't Beth."
"What?!? So you mean, she's still alive? She's still out
there?"
"I guess so. Tay, I have to go to a meeting now, and I'm
already late."
	"Kay, bye Mom."
Taylor was dazed the whole way home from work. When he got
home, he got a call from Mazey Powers. (A.N. Mazey Powers is kinda
like Oprah.) Mazey wanted to know if she could do a show on the
story. So the next Monday, Taylor went to New York City, along with
the whole Hanson family, which included Kate and Kristin.

The Next Monday

Mazey narrated while showing pictures, interviews, and
performances.
"20 years ago, the pop trio group from Tulsa, Oklahoma
surprised the nation with their first smash hit, 'MMMBop'. Appearing
on different shows, such as Jay Leno, Rosie O'Donnell, Oprah, and
Saturday Night Live, Isaac, 16, Taylor, 14, and Zac, 11, had the top
single and album, which went double platnum in over 20 countries.
These three brothers are self described, 'quiet', 'wacky', and
'serious'. Zac, the youngest of the three, was almost the youngest
musician to have a single sit in the number one spot, only to be
beatten out by Michael Jackson in one month age difference. By the
end of 1997, they were touring with a teenage girl band called Nothern
Lights. By the end of November, at the Billboard Awards, Northern
Lights heard the tragic news that their families had parished in a
plane crash, while on their way to attend the awards. So after a
couple weeks the band broke up and was sent to live with different
foster parents in their home state of Minnesota. When things were
difficult, the three girls ended up moving back in with the Hanson
family. By the end of February, Taylor and Beth had become closer than
friends and the tradgity begins on March 9th, 1998. Only 5 days before
Taylor's 15th birthday."
Then Mazey went to the people now. She asked how everyone was
doing and what they remembered about Beth. Zoë didn't remember
anything. Mackenzie remembered Mary Poppins, and everyone else
remembered everything. Of course, Zac had to add the stories about
ditch and a willow tree, along with the Sound of Music. Then they
told the story about the accident and showed some news footage of it.
Then they went to the letter from the governor and the trip to
Minnesota. By this time all the women in the adiance were crying, as
well as most of the people on stage were either crying or about to
cry softly.
"One week ago, you got a devestating call. It was the governor
of Minnesota saying that the person in the coffin was not Beth. What
went through your head when you heard that news?" Mazey asked.
Everyone basically said the same thing at once. Either, "Is
she still alive?" or "Where is she?"
"Well, behind you is Jon, from USA Search. He has been looking
her up on the computer and found her under the name 'Elizabeth
Carter'. Everyone's eyes got wide and a grin spread over their faces
as Mazey dialed the phone number.
"Hewo?" answered the voice of a child.
"Hi, is Beth there?" Mazey asked.
"No, but I can take a message," she answered.
	"Well, is your daddy home?"
"Just a minute . . . DADDY!" the girl yelled.
In the backround, you could hear a boy about 14 years old
yell back.
"ABIGALE! Dad told you not to yell unless it's an emergancy."
The you could hear a girl about 10 say, "Abby! Don't yell."
Only to be answered by the little girl say, "Shut up Travis
and Mikiah."
	"Hello?" a man said.
"This is Mazey Powers from the talk show. Does your wife have
a cell phone with her at the moment?"
	"Yes, she does."
	"Ok, we'll just call there."
So they looked under her name in the computer and found the
number.
	Beth answered, "Hello?"
"Hi, this is Mazey Powers. Do you know a family by the last
name of Hanson?"
"I'm sure I did as a teenager. Why?"
"Bethany McGraw, where do you live?"
"New York City, the suberbs, and how did you know my real last
name?"
"Beth, did you ever live with the Hanson family?"
"Yes, I think so. Have you heard from them?"
"Is there anyway we could get you to come to my studio?"
(If you don't know yet, Mazey has everything set up with Beth
already.)
"Mazey, I am in your studio."
