THE EAGLE

She was out walking the hills one day,

When down flew this magnificent bird of prey.

The sun shone him to be reddish-brown,

He had white, upon his tail and wings;

His head looked like a snow-covered mountain.

His eyes were intelligent, piercing, knowing, seeing,

He landed in the tree, gazing down upon her,

She knew she had nothing to fear, but yet it was there.

"Why do you fear me," he said, cocking his head.

She was awed beyond words to hear him speak thus..

She knew he meant no harm to her here among the trees;

"I do not fear you now," she whispered up to him.

"You come from the Great Spirit, I do believe..

What words of wisdom do you have for me?"

"None, my child, but that I am here."
