Make Your Own Candles~

Very simple to make. All you'll need is wax, wicks, scented oils (if you wish), and something heat resistant to put them in.

Wax granules are easier to work with than chunked or block wax. Just pour the granules in. You can melt them or leave as is and just add the wick and oil. Experiment. Use your creative imagination. If you want to, get molds for specific shaped candles.

A glass jar that is heat-proof, an empty tealite candle tin base thing (not sure what you'd call that), or a seashell can be used to hold the wax. ***If you're never going to light a certain candle, the jar, or whatever, can be anything(except plastic. Hot wax, you know). But if it's going to be lit, or if you are melting the wax first, the container must be able to withstand flame & heat.

Seashells make beautiful and natural-looking candle holders. Make sure it's big enough to hold the wax and wick, and make sure it will sit steady on a flat surface. Try to find one with scalloped edges if you can for added affect.

Make sure the wick is of the appropriate thickness for the size candle you are making. It should say on the package which one you'll need. Cut wick to desired length, but be sure to leave enough length to tie one end around a really thin twig or wooden skewer. You will rest this on top of the jar with the wick hanging down to the bottom. Or on top of the shell. Make sure the wick hangs evenly, straight down. Be careful when pouring the wax in around it. Or, you can pour the wax first and then very quickly, but carefully, put the wick in. Leave to cool. ***If you want to, get some plasticine. Take a small piece, roll into ball and stick one end of the wick in it. Press this onto the bottom of the jar or shell to keep the wick firmly in place.

Above all have fun. Anything you do in life should be met with open heart, open mind, and a sense of fun. Enjoy yourself in all that you do. It will be worth it.

Citrus Sweet Spice

*Bergamot oil,*Rose Geranium oil,*Bay oil *peach colored wax *nasturtium flowers (2-3 for typical votive candle size), broken up into medium-small pieces.

Melt wax on very low heat. Quickly mix in the flower pieces. Take off heat. Add oils, one scent at a time. Pour into container.

I don't mention the wick only because it's a given assumption that you will need this for making a successful candle. :)

Red Rose of Love *Rose Geranium oil, *Ylang-Ylang oil *Red rose petals, into medium-small pieces(amount depends on the size of candle. Let there be just enough so that they can be seen throughout the candle), *a couple pinches of Orris Root powder, *3 pinches ground Clove, *1 pinch ground Allspice.

Mix the spices together first. Melt wax over very low heat. Add spices. Mix a little. Add rose petal pieces. Mix a little. Remove from heat. Add oils, one scent at a time. Mix A little. Pour into container. Leave to cool.

Pink or White Rose of Love *pink or white rose petals, in med.-small pieces (optional)if you have Jasmine flower petals you may add the same way as the roses, in pieces. *if using pink petals, use white wax & a little beeswax to soften the starky white color. If using white petals, use pink wax. *few sprinkles of dried Lemon peel pieces, not ground *couple pinches Orris Root powder *Rose and/or Rose Geranium oil, Jasmine oil, Ylang-Ylang oil, 1 drop Lavender oil.

Melt wax over very low heat. Add Lemon peels and Orris root. Mix a little. Add petals. Remove from heat. Add oils one scent at a time. Mix a little. Pour into container. Let cool.

Experiment ~

You can use one scent, or a mix of scents. Play around and see what you come up with. A quick test for blending scents; hold all of the scents together that you want to try. Hold them about 6 inches under your nose and inhale lightly. How do they all smell together? Experiment...
