Welcome to the SpacePort 6 (or SP6)
homepage. SpacePort 6 was formerly a talking in chararacter
(or TIC) forum in the WebRPG family of online forums. Space Port 6 was
among the first of WebRPG's TIC forum to have separate webpage/FAQ support.
The forum is no longer active, but during its heyday, a great body of work
evolved about the SP6 setting. I have maintained this forum in the hopes
that other gamers may find the SP6 background useful as a setting for SFRPGs
such as Alternity, GURPS Space, CORPS, Traveller,
or my own homebrew Science Fiction RPG engine, Starfarer.
The SpacePort 6 setting espouses a "pseudo-hard" approach to SF. There are some items in the setting, such as faster than light drives, that are conventional trappings of SF that defy conventional scientific knowledge. However, we try not to get to carried away with what technology can do. "Magical" technologies like teleportation can hamper beleivability of the setting, draw focus a bit too far away from the characters, and kill otherwise good plotlines. This web page is primarily a compilation of background material that has been created over the course of SP6's existence, and questions frequenly asked by players new to the forum. This provided new players with the means to quickly get involved in the forum, and helps provide inspiration and consistancy for the plotlines. If you have questions about the forum, please consult the SP6 FAQ. If you have other questions, suggestions, or contributions, email me at: adkohler@ieee.org. If you are new to the SP6 forum and are interested in joining the role-playing expereince there, you might find it helpful to consult the SP6 Quick Tour.
