Village Life in India
One of the objectives of the village retreat was to give awareness to the people. In doing this, my group held a meeting for local women and educated them on various issues, including health, family planning, education and child care.

In the top photo I am making friends with the village kids and their dog! The middle photo shows my classmates singing and playing a song on the guitar meant to attract the villagers to a medical camp. My classmates had written the song's lyrics (in Tamil) and music. It was very creative and a lot of fun! In the bottom photo, my classmates and I are helping the villagers to repair their roads.

The Dog Named Julie

Interesting facts...

The puppy I am holding in the photo is named Julie! It seems that Julie is a common name for dogs in India, and this one is even a boy dog!

We had a tight schedule during this ten day village retreat. Each day, we woke up at 5 am, got ready for prayers by 6 am, between 6:30 am-9 am we broke up in groups for manual labor (ie. fixing roads), eat and bathe, and go for village visits. After the visits, between 5 and 7, we had group activities or community programs, dinner following and daily evaluation. We did not sleep before 12 am on any night!
