Village Life in India
The photos on this page were taken in Kalayanapuram. This was the village we were based in.

In the second photo you can see my classmates sitting with the villagers and the peanuts on the ground! Peanuts, which they called ground nuts, are their main crop and they shared their plentiful harvest with us. Many nights we came back to our sleeping areas with our backpacks full of peanuts.

Interesting facts...

Walking into the village, one can see it is divided. Most villages in Tamil Nadu are separated based on caste, lower caste live on one end, and higher castes, the other.

One of my classmates experienced 'casteism' in the village he went to. He decided to take some kids from the low caste side to the high caste side to buy them sweets. Upon approaching the stall, the man shouted loudly, "If you are buying anything for those kids, do not come here.
