This is a wide angle shot of Orion taken with my Nikon 8008s and a 50mm lens. The observatory dome in the foreground is the Wilder Observatory at Amherst College in Amherst Massachusetts. This dome houses an 18" f16 Clark refractor that has provided me with some of the most stunning planetary views I've ever seen. During the Shoemaker-Levy comet crash, you could easily make out detail in the large impact sites.

The shot of Orion was taken on PPF 400 film and was probably between 5 and 7 minutes long. The site is fairly light polluted making longer exposures impossible. Even at those short times, it had to be darkened appreciably to make it presentable.
