Installation of the PsxChipUk Mod Chip

Before you touch your Playstation or chip it is advisable to connect youself to ground via an Esd earth strap.The first thing to do is to attach the wires to the relevent pins on the chip do this before opening the playstation

Removal of the Outer Case

Turn unit over and remove the 6 screws.(5 on Pu-8)
Turn unit right-side up, and lift the cover off.

Removal of the laser housing

Disconnect the flexable PCB by pulling straight up on the black/golden ribbon cable
Disconnect the power connector (3 grey + 1 white wire) by pulling straight up.
Lift off laser housing.

Removal of the controller/memory card housing(NOT necessary on pu-18)

Remove the two screws on either side of housing.
Remove the 3 small screws which connect the housing cover to the metal plate.
Disconnect the ribbon cable by pulling straight up.
Lift off the controller/memory card housing.

Removal of the heavy metal bracket

Remove connector from power supply to main board(pull straight up).
Remove the (5 on pu-18 / 3 on pu-8) screws holding the bracket in place.
Lift off the bracket.

Removal of the circuit board

Remove the (5 on pu-8 / 3 on pu-18) screws along the top edge.
Lift off the circuit board.

Now its time to take a deep breath and to steady your hand. The chip is attached via pins 1 , 5 , 6 and 8 The pin numbers start top left(Marked by small indentation) and end top right in anti-clockwise direction. First flatten the chip by bending the wires upward until level with body of chip (use pliers on all legs along one side in one go) Now attach the wires to the chip be carefull not to hold the iron on it too long AND USE A LOW WATTAGE IRON , trim off any excess leg. Next follow the relevant wiring pictures for pin connections. Once you have soldered the relevant points use tape to insulate the chip from the shielding (to stop any possible shorting) Then reverse the disassembly instructions to reassemble the unit.
