Patrick Marleau has just come off a good rookie year with the Sharks where he scored 13 goals and 19 assists to put him 4th in rookie scoring with 32 points. Patrick definitely improved through the season, but was never seriously considered a calder candidate. Marleau scored his first NHL goal on Oct. 9, 1997 in a loss to Phoenix. One of Marleau's favorite players is Mario Lemieux, and he has the same shy, unassuming manner, speed, soft hands, and scoring knack. He definitely has the potential to become a superstar in this league.

Dallas Stars end series in 6-
The sharks battled in another close game, taking a 2-0 lead after goals from Joe Murphy and Mike Ricci... but the stars came back to tie it and force overtime for the 2nd time in three games. Coming on a 3-on-2 break from the left side, Mike Keane shot it at the net and it curled in to send the Stars to the second round and end San Jose's season. The sharks certainly pushed the stars further than anyone had thought possible, but in the end, the President's trophy champs came through.

Sharks tie series with stars-
The sharks entered game 4 down 2-1 in the series to Dallas, but they were at home and not about to roll over and play dead. In game 3, Patrick picked up his first play-off point, an assist on Nolan's goal in a 4-1 win. Tonight Mike Vernon was superb with 26 saves and Patrick had some prime scoring opportunities in his 2nd ever play-off game, but the game remain dead-locked for 60 minutes and so... you guessed it-overtime. Andrei Zyuzin scored his 1st ever play-off goal from Nicholls to win it for San Jose 1-0. The sharks now head back to Dallas with the momentum.

San Jose into the post-season for the 1st time in 3 years!
The sharks finally clinched on Wednesday with a tie against the Calgary flames. Tonight they have a re-match with Calgary to decide whether they will get 7th or 8th place. San Jose will find out their 1st round opponents tomorrow based on their results and Edmonton's.

Sharkies jump into play-off spot...for now-
In the tighter than 10 year old pants western conference, San Jose is tied with Phoenix and Edmonton with 74 points. I have a good feeling they will make it in, especially considering their relatively easy schedule the rest of the way. As for Patrick, he's now the 4th leading scorer for San Jose with 31 points, and although he won't get too much consideration for the ROY, he just might prove to be the best of his class.
