Ok,heres what I think.I went into it knowing it was 3 hours plus long and wondering if it was going to be worth it.After all the story has been shown before and we all know the ENDING right?....
The film documents the 1912 ill-fated maiden voyage of the R.M.S Titanic with the impressive authenticity,it is largely the story of the relationship between two fictitious passengers on the ship. Their great love begins a mystery that echoes across the years into the present,where the movie begins with a 101 year old women contacting a salvage ship at the site of the wreck to give information about a missing necklace they believe is still on the bottom of the sea.That women turns out to be 17 year old Rose DeWitt Bukater(Kate Winslet),when the film flashes back to the Titanic in 1912,Rose is suffocating under the rigid confines of Edwardian society and a planned marriage to a wealthy man(Billy Zane)she does not love when she has a chance meeting on deck with the free-spirited Jack Dawson(Leonardo DiCaprio).When Jack and Rose fall in love,they vow nothing on earth can come between them- not even the sinking of the Titanic.
Yes the Titanic sinks,we know that,but do not go into the movie thinking you can predict the end.I came away from it so touched that the 3 hours plus seemed like 10 minutes.If you are not moved,sadden,inspired,or looking up history books after then you do not have a romantic heart or soul.

.5 of a point lost because it took them 85 years to show us what the Titanic passengers endured.
