Introduction

As promised in the first article, here is the follow up to use The Federation in Battlefleet Gothic. The second installment handles the legendary vessels of the Federation, namely those famous from the various television series and movies.

All the special rules for the basic vessels count here as well, except that you may only take 1 legendary vessel in every 1000 points or part thereof, so a fleet of 2500 points may include up to 3 legendary vessels. A legendary vessel may replace the required heavy cruiser in a Federation task force.

Legendary Vessels of the Federation

USS Enterprise NCC 1701, Captain James T. Kirk
Probably the most famous starship of the whole Federation, this was the Constitution class starship that took James T. Kirk on two five year missions before being detroyed by Kirk himself above the planet Genesis in order to escape capture by the Klingons.

Legendary Resistance - The Enterprise was famous for getting its way out of problems more than perhaps any other vessel in Starfleet (don't argue, it IS the most well known vessel and captain, no matter which series you love most) and as such repairs damage on the roll of 5+ instead of on a 6.

USS Enterprise NCC 1701-D, Captain Jean-Luc Picard
Actually the sixth vessel in Starfleet to bare the name Enterprise, this ship was commanded by the French Captain Picard, on a deepspace exploration mission some decades after Kirk's. A vessel made famous by making first contact with various species, it was also one of the most influential vessels in the defeat of the first Borg attack. The Enterprise - D was destroyed by a Bird-of-Prey when awaiting the same Nexus that killed Captain Kirk years before.

The Excelsior was a testbed for the experimental transwarp drive, but when this proved unsuccesful, it was replaced with a more common warpdrive. The vessel was commanded by the former Enterprise helmsman Captain Sulu and was instrumental in the Kithomer agreements.

Transwarp Drives - Whenever the Excelsior wants to go to the Special Order "All Ahead Full", she doesn't need to pass a Ld test in order to do so, but whenever she suffers the critical result "Engine room damaged", she also starts to be on fire as per the critical result effect.

USS Voyager NCC 74656, Captain Kathryn Janeway
Voyager, an Intrepid class vessel, is one of the Federations most advanced vessels. Capable of far faster speed and manouvring, she was send to the Badlands to hunt down a Maquis party. However, there she was swept away by an entity known as the Caretaker, and was stranded in the Delta Quadrant, 75 000 LY from Federation Space. Here they undertook a 7 year voyage home, during which they encountered various species and new technologies.

Borg Sensors (+15 Points) - All targets count as Closing on the firing table.
Ablative Armour (+50 Points) - This 30 years from the future technology allows the Voyager to have a 5+ save against any hit it suffers, from EVERY type of weapon.
Trans Phase Torpedoes (+40 Points/Salvo) - Up to 3 salvos of these potent torpedoes can be bought. These are state of the art and exist both in realspace and subspace at the same time, constantly fluxing in and out of existance. A hit from a Trans Phase Torpedo immediately causes a critical hit also, no roll needed. In addition, a Trans Phase Torpedo always hits on a 4+, like a lance does, no matter what the vessels armour might be.

USS Defiant NX 74205, Captain Benjamin Sisko
The Defiant was an experimental vessel that replaced all comfort with place for wargear. It is the first class of Federation ship build with only war as a sole purpose in mind, and especially war against the Borg. With the start of the Dominion threat however, Defiant was restationed at DS9, and although she was destroyed in the conflict, her sister ship Sao Paolo was renamed Defiant in honour of her performances. The vessel was build with the co-operation of the Romulans, resulting in the fact that she was equipped with a Cloaking Device.
