ENTER WITH A HAPPY HEART

"He Who Cuts His Own Wood is Twice Warmed"

The road to the cabin...well, there are several roads and we all have our favorite I guess. MY favorite way leads us through several small, VERY SMALL towns, but is mostly smooth-traveling. Dad's would be the road that takes us WINDING through Copperopolis, (gag me) and the kids enjoy that route too, because of all the BUMPS in the road...wheeeeee!! Donia ALWAYS had to "throw up" on Murphy's Grade Road, after miles and miles of bumps, hills, and twists...The one bright spot on this road, is the tradional little General Store in Farmington, where we stop every time, to refresh...and get munchies! The OTHER road, less traveled by my own family, but also a favorite of the kids, is the one that takes us through Oakdale and Escalon...past the fence with a row of wreaths in tribute to "CRICKET"...and...LOVER"S LEAP....we always have to talk about Lover's Leap...and sing "Running Bear" along this route.

We've finally reached the CABIN, our own getaway place of peace and relaxation...a place that is always bubbling over with fun and happy times...we have TONS of fond memories here. Come on in....you'll feel the warmth and love within the walls!

You'll smell the piney scent of evergreens and the smoke of the woodburning stove....you'll see that this place is built on traditions and family unity. I am going to let my children, and maybe a few special others, tell their stories

First, Katie's story:

"Grandma and Grandpa's Cabin"

Well... I remember always waking up early and laying in bed awake until I heard Grams walking around in the kitchen making coffee, then I knew I could get up!  She would always be in her P.J.'s with her bathrobe on. Sometimes we would get up before any adults and get the coloring books from under the counter and sit there and color until Grams got up and she would say we could have some cereal and make us hot cocoa.  Gosh, everything about the cabin is SPECIAL... even the mugs and cereal bowls!!  I also remember we would have to take whistles when the kids would go on a walk in the woods without an adult...  When it snowed we'd make a little tube run where we found a free space... Can't forget MIMI.....hmmm...There is ALWAYS good dinner at the cabin... not only Thanksgiving...  I remember it was so fun when a grown-up would play cards with us!!  And I loved it when you could see the men on the deck reading their Bibles in the morning...

...and how we always dried our soggy mittens and socks and shoes and scarves and hats (anything soggy!) on the big fireplace so they were ready for us next time we wanted to go out in the snow.  Hmmm... there is always a Reader's Digest magazine in the bathroom to read while you sit there...   I remember how exciting it is when the NEXT family would finally get there and you could hear them stomping around down stairs bringing in their suitcases and then stomping up the stairs to come HUG everyone!!
