Ά It is said to be that WE seniors have but one thing to do and say --- and that includes memories. € Well, in a sense we do spend alot of time with memories. Afterall, it is US that have had a longer life than the youngers and it is only proper that we have had alot more experience and in order to benefit from it -- WE have to have, yes, memories.
€ I refuse to allow anyone to incorrectly assume that seniors are to old to be a part of todays world. BUT it is incumbent of us to remain active in order to disspell that false assumption ! Be active in church, social organizations that include a spread of age groups, and as many community support groups as time and health permit !
€ Textbooks are full of memories and in order to learn WE must reMEMBER what we have read in order to put it to good and proper use.
€ I can REMEMBER when I was a young guy looking at those OLD parents of mine. I REMEMBER when 21 was a long way off, then 30 was old, then 40 --- wait, who said "life begins at forty" ? Forty what ?
€ Now that I reached that so called "golden age of 72 years old", that just ain't as old as it sounded , oh say, forty years ago ! At least in my mind that is so, but the body --- well, its sort of run down and in a much slower gear !
Ά And you know, written history is full of memories. Class yearbooks become a volume of memories. Momentos and gifts along with pictures are full of --- memories.
€ The fact is no one can escape collecting memories ! It just that we senior folks are smart enough to have a lot more than those youngers !
€ So, the next time you talk to someone older than you, remember: they have more memories than you to tell. And after you listen to their memories - well - you will have more memories !

Ά A study by Consumer Reports magazine on seniors and Medicare found that older Americans are faced with a system that has become "prohibitively expensive, restrictive, and unintelligible".
Ά The study examined more than 200 Medicare HMO's and more than 1,200 Medicare Supplemental Insurance policies in 19 cities across the nation.
Ά Findings showed higher out-of-pocket health care expenses, cutbacks in HMO benefits such as presciption drugs and vision care and bewildering array of Medicare choices.
€€€ Premiums are up 35 percent on average since 1994 for Medicare Supplement Insurance (sometimes called Medigap), which offers seniors the greatest flexibility of doctors and hospitals.
€€€ Premiums for Medicare Part B {for doctors and outpatient services} will more than double over the next eight years, from $550.26 in 1998 to $1,172 in 2006.
€€€ Premiums for Plan C, the most popular of the 10 standardized Medicare supplemental plans, are up 41 percent since 1994.
€€€ Many seniors report they siged up with an HMO because it paid for prescription drugs, but they find that their plans now limit or have begun to charge for this benefit.
Ά The report was published in the September issue and also explained how to evaluate prescription drug benefits offered by different HMO's, offered advice on choosing Medicare options and discussed threats to the future of the system.
