Beanie Terms Dictionary

Attic Treasures: Creature creations by Ty.

Beanie baby/babies: Copyrighted name for Ty creature creations. The term is used by lots of people to include many different brands of bean-filled toys but technically refers only to the original Ty creations.

Beanie buddy/buddies: Larger versions of the original beanies. First released late in 1998.

Canadian tags: Refers to the fact that Canadian releases must have two tush tags: one in French and one in English.

Current: Releases that are not retired or new releases but are generally available.

Hang tag: The heart-shaped tag that contains the poem for beanies. Also called a swing tag.

HTF: Acronym for hard to find. Usually refers to beanie bears or others that are snatched up quickly in the retail stores or are of limited production for some reason.

Mint: Term often used to refer to tag and beanie quality. "Mint" should be used only when the object is in crisp, new condition.

MIP: Acronym for "mint in package." In beanie lingo, it would mean the McDonald's releases, since the others don't come in packages from retailers.

MWMT/MWMTs/MWBMTs/et al: These terms and their variations stand for "mint with mint tags" or "mint with both mint tags" or the like. The term "tags" refers to the hang or swing tag and the tush tag(s).

New: Generally means a new release, or at least one of the last batch of creatures announced by Ty. Such announcements are currently being made every 3 months.

New face (NF): The "new face" on teddy bears, where they have a stitch across the nose. Nearly all releases since 1997 have had this new face.

Old face (OF): The "old face" on teddy bears without a stitch across the nose. The OF teddies are generally more expensive since they are an older style. The last I heard that were created with old faces were a very few Peace bears; the others are the brown and colored teddies released early in the production of beanies.

Original: In beanie terms this means the "regular" beanies as opposed to the teenies or buddies.

PE pellets: The polyethylene pellets (beans) inside the beanies.

Pillow pals: Another plush line from Ty.

PVC pellets: An older type of pellets, polyvinylchloride, that can be found in some beanies. Those with PVC pellets are considered higher quality and so usually cost more. Princess with PVC pellets sells for about 3 times more on the secondary market.

Retired: Creatures that are no longer in production and so no longer available at retailers. Retirements are currently announced every 3 months.

TBB: Stands for teenie beanie babies, the beanies available in McDonald's Happy Meals for the last few years. This looks to be an ongoing product.

Tush tag: The tag (or tags, for Canadian beanies) that list the materials used on the rear of the creature.
Tylon: The soft fabric used for Beanie Buddies, created just for Ty.
