Air Transat and Regent Holidays presented
us with what we thought was
A NIGHTMARE VACATION
TO CONTADORA BEACH, PANAMA

REGENT HOLIDAYS HAS GONE!!!
IT WAS BOUGHT UP BY WORLD OF VACATIONS!!!

Air Transat and Regent Holidays! Our vacation, booked with Air Transat and Regent Holidays, was a total disaster. We received no satisfaction from Air Transat and Regent Holidays so the only course of action left was this web site to warn others and, hopefully, save someone else from suffering as badly as we did.

Regent Holidays gave a glowing review to this resort in their travel brochure and the pictures made it seem a paridise. What we found failed to meet, or even come close to, our expectations, based on their brochure.

Regent Holidays and Air Transat are sister companies. Don't misunderstand this site. We are not telling you to stay away from Regent Holidays and Air Transat, simply read through these pages and decide for yourself if you wish to book with them. We did this soley for the purposes of bringing our story to the public.

February 23 1998

To Whom it may concern;

This letter is to complain about the vacation we booked with you, to Contadora from January 23, 1998 to January 30, 1998.

Let us start with Air Transat. The day of departure we were loaded on the plane at 6:20 a.m. for a 6:45 a.m. departure, then the delays started. Periodically the captain would address his captive audience, in broken English, to inform us that there would be a delay so the plane could be deiced. Apparently snow is such a rare event in Toronto that plane deicing is not a common occurrence. If the captain is to be believed, they were trying to figure out how to deice the plane. We finally left the ground at 9:45 a.m., and during our time, confined to the ground, we were offered one very small glass of juice, when I requested coffee I was informed that there was none available. The meal, being served three hours late, was disgusting even by airline standards.

The flight was listed on the itinerary as NON-STOP from Toronto to Panama City. When we arrived in Cost Rica, we were delayed for nearly two hours with an engine malfunction, I will address this point again as the letter progresses. During this stop the cabin crew quit working. Two, of our party of four, went to find water to help relieve the heat, which was oppressive. One flight attendant was sitting in the galley painting her nails, while the other was asleep. When asked for water the response was that we could get as much as we could carry. When the NON-STOP flight resumed the captain informed us that there would be no further service from the cabin crew until we landed in Panama City.

Our plane touched down in Panama City at 5:50 p.m. eleven and one half hours after we boarded in Toronto. During this arduous ordeal we were offered no compensation, save for the free headphones. We landed so late that there was no way to get us to the resort until the following day. As a result of this we were herded like cattle onto busses and deposited at a less than impressive two star hotel where we had the pleasure of lining up, with nearly eighty other people, to wait to be checked in by one person on the front desk. We were issued coupons to be used in the restaurant of the hotel, there were only certain items we could order and, if we ordered more than the coupons covered, we were to pay for any excess. The four in our party simply refused to pay extra, as did many others in the group. We ordered items from the menu, only to be informed, thirty minutes later, that the item was not on the menu that night. Being tired and very hungry from our journey we were in no mood for uninformed staff who had extreme difficulty understanding English. The hotel room smelled musty and the beds were hard.
