Prepare 5

STANDING OVATION:

What everyone who puts in the hard work, who persists, and puts their talent on the line deserves! This is as close as we can get--for your persistence so far, you deserve it!

TAKE:
starbar.gif (5476 bytes)

(as in TAKE 1, TAKE 2) means the number of times you shoot the scene. Each take is numbered, starting with guess which number! Each take costs money--the more they do, the more it costs! Now, when you're on take 37 because you don't know your lines, you'll understand why they fire you and hire someone with a better memory.

UNDER FIVE:
starbar.gif (5476 bytes)

A union job with 5 or fewer lines: "Another drink, Mr. Bond" would constitute under five. Much better than being an extra--much better than being a standin, and it's much better than not getting cast! You're a working ACTOR...and you have something positive to put on your resume.

VOICE OVER:
starbar.gif (5476 bytes)

What it sounds like -- your face is not seen but your voice is (OK, not seen but heard)! Cartoons, commercials, industrials all use VO's--and sometimes, they pay very well!

VOICE TAPE:
starbar.gif (5476 bytes)

Another tool for actors wanting to do voice overs. Sometimes produced by the actor showing off the different commercials they've done or the different voices they have--best check with your agent before you spend money on this. Even then, choose wisely.

WARDROBE:
starbar.gif (5476 bytes)

Clothing you wear to an audition or you take to a shoot to wear. Sometimes, two or three changes are required so they can 'pick' from your clothes. Sometimes, if you're lucky, you'll get a wardrobe allowance which means they pay you to bring your own clothes. Don't get too excited--you'll be lucky if the cleaners can get the makeup off your collar for the price of the wardrobe allowance.

WRAP:
starbar.gif (5476 bytes)

(or "That's a wrap" or "We're wrapped") The good and sad of the business. If you're lucky enough to be there on the last day, you will hear the director or assistant director say this word. It means the shoot is over--all wrapped up--all done. Usually, there's a WRAP PARTY. Don't drink too much and make a fool of yourself, because once the party's over, you will be LOOKING FOR WORK once again. And so it goes...for the rest of your career...unless you get so incredibly famous you get to choose your scripts, your director, and your perks. In which case, remember the beginning...and Pass it on!

WOOPS. If you get to this point, you've gotten to the bottom of our list! CONGRATULATIONS! Of course, we reserve the right to add to it. In the meantime, please remember the rest of the little guys out there, all trying to get their foot in the door. If we've helped you, reach back and help somebody else!

Pass it on!
