The Holy Spirit

(Here's another one: some notes and group studies on the Holy Spirit. I think this is a more difficult topic in some ways than the others, and this may not be quite as sharp as my other series (at least the public ones - let's not talk about the unseen guys on my computer). Difficult though it may be, it's also very interesting. Of course, I've got my own opinions and biases on this topic, and those are apparent in my notes.)

This is an introductory section, mostly for reference. There are various verses listings, made during my preparation, which I used to get a handle on some of the issues at hand.

It seems that with regards to the Holy Spirit, most of the emphasis is on what we can get from the Spirit. While we certainly can gain a lot, and should know what that is, I want to first take time to learn about the nature and character of the Holy Spirit. And maybe just dwell on who the Spirit is for a little while.

Ok, so let's talk about all the cool stuff the Spirit provides.

There's some wild stuff going on in the name of the Spirit. I want to try and get a handle on it, and at the very least describe and give the various sides on the issues. At best, I want to be able to say with authority whether certain behaviors, events, and ministries are truly the Spirit's work (but I doubt I will be able to).

Gen 1:2 Spirit present at formation of world

Gen 6:3 Spirit of God; can be at strife with man

Job 26:13 by breath of God the heavens are cleared

Job 27:3 life in me == breath of God in my nostrils

Job 33:4 Spirit of God made me; breath of God gives me life

fire consuming. takes sacrifice. takes life. pillar of fire for guide.

anointing anointed priest with oil. consecrate with oil. an act establishing and indicating one to have a special position before God

deed act of confirmation of binding agreement.

water essential to life.

We are sealed with HS.

We are anointed with HS.

HS comes like, wind, fire, dove.

Isa 11:2 Spirit of God will rest on Messiah

Isa 42:1 God says He puts His Spirit on His servant
