Lacosta single stick techniques
The Lacosta family of Kali is one of the major influences on Inosanto method Kali. Many styles of Kali use numbering systems to name and determine an orderly way to attack or feed for training. The numbers are arbitrary and are only use to give structure to the beginning lessons. The attacks follow the Escala as does the foot work that can accompany the drills.  Later after familiar with angles of attack and defense, we move on to random lines and exchanges. The Lacosta 12 ct. is as follows.
#1 forehand at a 45*downward angle
#2 backhand at a 45*downward angle
#3 forehand at a horizontal waist level
#4 backhand at horizontal waist level
#5 straight thrust to abdomen
#6 high thrust to upper chest, throat or face
#7 high thrust to upper chest, throat or face
#8 downward forehand
#9 upward backhand
#10 upward forehand
#11 vertical downward strike
#12 vertical slash/thrust
This Basic 12 count is done slowly and deliberately at first. It progresses in combination with footwork on the Escala, and is combined with partner drills. (gently meeting the force, following the force, deflection with checking, and disarms.
