Yep, its true. And its from something that you wouldnt expect. It showers us with warmth, light, and is essential to our way of life. Yep, you probably have already guessed it, its our good "ol" pal the sun.
Im sure youre fully aware the sun burns on Hydrogen. If you werent, now you are. The sun has a lot of Hydrogen, and its not even half through its supply. Butthat will run out, some time or another. Thats not so bad, because when the Sun burns Hydrogen, it makes Helium. So, itll just use its Helium for a while. That works, but not as well as Hydrogen.
When the sun runs out of Helium, its core will shrink and contract. This will cause its outer temperature to cool down considerably, but nowhere close too frosty. The sun is going to be a nice tiny yellow dwarf.
But, now its going to grow, changing from "yellow dwarf" to "Red Giant". As it grows, it will begin moving outward, killing off its planets.
Mercurys going to be an appetizer, Venus will be the main chorus, and once the sun reaches Earth, two things could happen.
The sun continues growing, and just kills of Earth as it did Mercury and Venus, devouring Mars, Jupiter, etc.
2. The Sun stops short of Earths orbit, and leaves Earth intact. But how much better is that? All our oceans are going to be boiled up, all vegetation killed, and we cant live under such heat, and such conditions. Earth will just be a hot rock.
After the sun burns away its last bit of helium, the end is near. The last remnants or Helium are stripped away, leaving a hot white sphere of Carbon. That burns for at least another billion years, but that burns out as well, leaving is a black cylinder. Scientists theorize that there could be diamonds in the cylinder, after all, diamonds are compressed Carbon. But what good is that? You cant spend the riches on Earth. Thered be no Earth at all.
