  • Gamesville - This well-done site offers online multiplayer games such bingo and the "Multimedia Celebrity Trivia Game," in which you can win cash prizes. We've had a number of visitors who've reported that they've won $5, $10 or $20 here. No special software required; all you have to do is sign up.
  • Caribbean Sands - This freeware casino program lets you either gamble online for real or offline, just for fun. It offers 3D rendered graphics & animation and digital sound and voice. Full context sensitive help. Games offered include blackjack, roulette, Caribbean poker, video poker, sports betting, baccarat, craps, and four slot machines. (For Win 95/NT only).
  • Forsaken (direct download) - Did you enjoy the revolutionary 3D shooter Descent? Then you'll love Forsaken, a fantastic new game that offers the same head-spinning, stomach-churning action, but with greatly improved graphics. The game features full 360 degrees of movement in all directions from a first-person view. This excellent demo offers you two levels' worth of action. For Win 95.   • Battlezone - This is more more than a mere update of the classic arcade game. It's a classic first-person action and real-time strategy game, with great gameplay and graphics. Home page is here. (Demo is 21 megs: download time: 145 minutes at 28.8).
  • Turok: Dinosaur Hunter (direct download) - This fine demo offers a good taste of the fierce combat found in this intense first-person shooter. Features action-packed gameplay and 14 high-tech weapons. Turok also features great virtual control: you can move in any direction in a fully 3D world with the ability to aim weapons 360 degrees horizontally. The file size is 11 megs and download time should run 1 hour, 22 minutes on a 28.8 modem. Home page here.
  • Realms of Despair - This is a highly addictive multiplayer interactive medieval adventure game. It is text-based, but supports ANSI color and RIP graphics. If you're new to so-called MUD games, this is a good place to start and is quite easy to use.
  • Gold Club Casino - This excellent program contains 6 casino games, including blackjack, poker, slots and roulette. You can either play for fun offline or you can play for real, with online wagering and real winnings. (Note: you must be 18 years old to "play for real.") Gold Club Casino is 4 megs in size and is for Windows only.
  • Grand Theft Auto - This violent, "offensive" (read: sure to be popular) game from Britain is stirring up quite a bit of controversy. In Grand Theft Auto, you fill the shoes of a criminal. The more crime, violence and mayhem that you successfully pull off, the higher you advance. The demo is 13 megs in size (and will take 1 hour, 33 minutes to download at 28.8). Home page is here.   • Seven Kingdoms: strategy game - You know, it's funny how game demos work. Some of the all-time classic games have rotten demos. But Seven Kingdoms is that rarity: it's a classic game and the demo is wonderful, too. Seven Kingdoms is a real-time strategy and empire-building game. Players compete again six computer opponents (or other human players) for control of land, trade and peasants. If you like Warcraft II and Civilization, then give this one a whirl! (For Win 95; requires Direct X). The demo is 16.5 megs in size.
  • Internet Gaming Zone - This popular multiplayer gaming site offers free membership. Big selection of traditional games, many of which are free, including hearts, bridge, spades, go, checkers and reversi.
  • NetStorm - This is a great, real-time strategy game. In NetStorm, you can rule the skies with ground-breaking action strategy and wage intense multiplayer warfare over the Net. Do some practice and then hit the Net for real human opponents (a 28.8 connection is sufficient; we encountered little lag). This file is 9.3 megs in size. For Windows.
  • Acropolis Casinos - This excellent "government licensed" gambling game lets you play for fun or for real money. Acropolis Casinos does a good job of capturing the atmosphere of an exciting gambling house, complete with sounds and video animation. Online game play is fast-paced and fun.
  • Omni Casino - This is the latest in a series of hot new online "virtual casinos" emerging on the Web, and one of the best ones we've seen yet. This free client lets you gamble for real money or play off-line for fun. Omni Casino features enhanced 3D rendered graphics and animation, as well as digital sound and voice. Five casino games are featured, including blackjack, poker, roulette and four slot machines, with up to 95 percent payouts and up to $10,000 jackpots.
  • Music Hunt Scavenger Hunt - In this fun online game, your goal is to search through Web sites and find a specific item by the clue given. Once you have found all of the items and submitted them you will be entered into a grand prize pool at the end of each gaming week. Prizes have included such items as Lava Lamps, gift certificates and X-Files videos.
  • WarpCycle - You remember Disney's movie "Tron" from the early 1980s? It was pretty lame. But one good thing it spawned was the memorable arcade game of the same name. WarpCycle 2 is inspired by that particular game and does a nice job, with cool graphics and good gameplay.
  • Montezuma's Return (direct download: 18 megs) - This addictive adventure game features stunning graphics, lots of killer 3-D graphics and plenty of exciting gameplay. A fine demo. Home page here.
  • Quake II (direct download: 11 megs) - I played Doom so much that I got sick to death of it. I swore I'd never play a 3-D shooter again. Then along came Duke Nukem 3D. The cycle repeated itself. Then Quake. Now comes Quake II: without a doubt the best 3-D shooter ever and insanely addictive as ever. This demo doesn't do the commercial game justice, but is still an awesome taster.
  • Power Boat Racing (direct download: 22 megs) - Realistic simulation that offers lots of thrills, cool scenery and great graphics. This demo gives you a nice taste of the game.
  • SubSpace - SubSpace (from the same people who brought us Command & Conquer) is is a galactic shoot-em-up that's played on the Net. Unlike the boxed games, you're playing against real, live opponents.
  • #1 MVP's Command Center - If you're into games, then check out this cool site for lots of goodies (both freeware and fully playable shareware). Free games here include such classics as cribbage, hearts, spades and euchre.
  • Classic Entertainment Online - Bored? Then click over to this free game service and sign up to play online versions of classic games like cribbage, hearts, spades and euchre.
  • Dungeon Keeper - British developer Bullfrog has a fine free demo to introduce you to its classic real-time strategy game with a twist: instead of fighting the evil guys, YOU are the bad guy. Design your own dungeon and destroy the good-guy heroes who dare invade your evil turf. This demo is for Windows 95 (a Pentium 60 is the minimum requirement) and is 12 megs in size.
  • Checkers Without a Name - Ever wanted to play a game of checkers with someone on the other side of the planet? Now it can be done. Just download this multiplayer client and you can challenge players from Alabama to Zambia
  • Conmeg Freeware Games - Great freeware games for Win 95, including Bubble Puzzle `97, which is a very fun and recommended game.
