Keris - tale of a Stargazer!

Keris is my oldest character on Harper's Tale MOO. He wasn't my original alt, but he's the one who's stuck around the longest - since April 1999. Since then, he and I have achieved quite a lot in the StarCraft ;-) Keris is a Senior Journeyman, and I'm a Leader in the shape of the OOC X1.

[-StarCraft] Keris baps Etain. You make me sound like a monster! :P

[-StarCraft] Cipri: you are.

[-StarCraft] Keris: Shut up.

On this page you'll find out everything you ever wanted to know about Keris; IC history, logs and OOC foo.

History:

Keris comes originally from Igen, where he lived in a small cothold together with his parents and siblings. His father, a Smith, wanted his son to follow in his footsteps and join the Smithcraft. But Keris, being a very sensitive soul, was always fascinated by the stars, and so when he turned 14 he left his family to join the StarCrafters in Ista.

[-Leader] Shirgall often gets dates just by licking his eyebrows.

It was a long journey, and quite eventful for young Keris. He met his first love, and lost her again to Thread. Bitter and alone, he made it to Ista Weyr where he became a resident. Though shortly after, he left the Weyr and journeyed to Gar Hold, home of the StarCraft. He was accepted, and a new era of his life started then, the study of the stars, the planets and the Red Star and Thread.

[-StarCraft] Keris whimpers..

[-StarCraft] Libby: What are you, Kerry, a man or a mouse?

[-StarCraft] Keris: Gimme a piece of cheese and I'll show you.

Of course, staying out of trouble has always been a very hard thing for Keris, and it didn't take him very long to get involved with a young woman from the Weyr. Though as his apprenticeship was threatned by his love life, he reluctantly agreed to break the contact, and thus he could concentrate on his studies.

That didn't last long though, as he slowly developed feelings for fellow apprentice Liseria. It was only a matter of time before the two were emotionally involved, but that relationship was ended when Liseria was Searched, and became Lis, rider of green Alymath at High Reaches Weyr. His heart broken, Keris dedicated himself even more to his studies.

[-StarCraft] Lis watches Starcraft become more and more like the weyr every day...

And almost three Turns after joining the StarCraft, his hard work paid off. Senior Apprentice Keris became Journeyman Keris, and suddenly it was alright for him to have relationships. Not quite able to cope with this fact, he threw himself into the arms of one woman after another, but he still had time to work in the Craft, and this resulted in an addition to his knot and the rank of Senior Journeyman.

[-StarCraft] Keris: Darn.. I don't think there's a room in this Hall I haven't woken up in. Freeky!

Keris' family never forgave him for going against his father and joining the StarCraft, and he hasn't spoken with them since he left his home at the age of 14.

His Turns at Ista have been a constant turmoil of studying and sorting out the occasional relationship-problem, but still, Keris has managed to gain quite a few friends. And when he Turned 21, a sweet, little girl came to the Crafthall, looking for fosterparents, and his heart was sold. So with the new parental responsibility, his love-life has been a little on the short side as all his free time goes to friends and studies.

[-StarCraft] Keris: Well don't. A naked Cipri could turn me gay!

[-StarCraft] Cipri eyes Keris. "You DO know that you're on a MALE alt here, right?"

[-StarCraft] Keris looks innocent. "I think there're soe unclear facts about that :>W

But being the confused and spontaneous type he is, it probably won't take Keris long to get into another fine mess with women and Starcrafters.

[XxXx] Alanna giggles...Keris can you ever stay off jokes?

Description and personality:

Keris
Tousled blond hair falls around his head in a cloudy mess, though not falling into the blue, blue eyes that gleam impishly when he's awake. Skin bronzed by Ista's sun stretches over lean muscles and accented features, a strong chin marking the end of his face. His full lips are often twisted into a grin or a snicker, thus making dimples appear. He stands tall and lean, with subtle muscles that are not eyecatching when he wears clothes.
Casual black trousers are tucked into calf-length wherhide boots of a dusty brown colors. Around his waist is a red belt, making sure the plain tunic of a bluish-green color stays in place.
A double cord of red and silver with a loop, a long tail and a tassle, all bound in gold thread, denotes a status of Senior Journeyman in the StarCraft. Situated right under the knot is a small badge, showing a speciality in Charting for those who are familiar with the StarCraft symbols.

When I made Keris, I shaped him to be a dragonrider. It was back in my newbie days when all my chars were chosen with the purpose of once becoming riders, and Keris was no exception.

[-StarCraft] Cassiopeia: I mean... who would want to go out with a genderless freak? ;)

I came up with his name a morning in April when I was killing time during the break between two classes, and since I've always liked rather short names (and it's just a coincidence that all my original chars' names all are five letters) and I wanted something which could be contracted to K'ris, Keris was created. (I've had the occasional remark about his name which some people seem to classify as being feminine, but it never occured to me until someone pointed it out.)

[-StarCraft] Calais: if you don't know your gender.... be proud.

[-StarCraft] Cipri: no. if you don't know your gender... Be Keris.

Originally, Keris was your typical WASP, or the Pernese equivalent; a real stud, macho, but with a heart of gold. Over the time, though, I've altered him quite a lot. He's still flirty, reckless, mischievous, spontaneous, open and constantly strolling around with a smile on his face, but his personality is now very deep, and not nearly as shallow as it was in the beginning. He's very caring and always trying to make people comfortable, if a bit clueless at times, and if someone truly gets hurt by his mischief or impish remarks, he's the first to apologize. Actually, I have a lot of fun playing him as a real professor-type; the kind who is very distracted and mentally absent and forgets to eat half the time. As a teacher he's very serious, and no-one can doubt his integrity and love for the Craft, but many an apprentice has found out that pulling pranks on Keris is something easily done - and usually something everyone can laugh at, especially Keris.

[-StarCraft] Libby wonders what happens if you jump in front of a lawnmower? "Do you just get a really awful haircut?"

[-StarCraft] Keris: Nah, your guts will spill on the lawn.

[-StarCraft] Calais: or you become like Kerry..man or woman?

But he's also very aware of his own and others' rank, and he won't allow anyone to get hurt in the process of a prank. Not really caring about titles though, he asks most people to just call him 'Keris', and he fends off any 'sir' with a laugh and a shake of the head. And most of the apprentices have picked up on the nickname 'Kerry' which Journeyman Cipri came up with. (OOCly a while ago, and ICly during the party after Keris' promotion - read the log!)

[-StarCraft] Keris makes a new lizard-desc. "Green Breast Implant Cipri Hatchling Going To Get A Lobotomy"

"There isn't any special someone in Keris' life right now - and at this point, I don't know if there ever will be. I rather enjoy playing him as the flirty one-nighter, but if the right person comes along, it isn't at all unrealistic that he'll settle down."

This is what I wrote some time back - and it changed. First, poor Keris fell in love with (or well, after a good deal of hinting from her side ;-) StarCraft garden worker, Alister. Then she was Searched, and Impressed at Ista Weyr, and poor Keris was crushed. But he didn't stay single for long... Yes, various confusing situations led to the 'fasting of Keris and fellow Senior Journeyman in the StarCraft, Jorina. Read the log below for more info. (If you dare. Oy, it's complex ;-)

This covers the basics of the complex character that is Keris - but no matter what people might think about him ICly, he's a heck of a lot of fun to play OOCly!

Keris managed to get a fair of 'lizards flying about.... if you click on the blue one beneath, it might just tell you a little about them!

OOC foo:

You may have noticed the various quotes on this site, and yes, they are all part of a bigger (if uglier!) picture. Ok, so I MAV a little and use the wrong pronouns, but that's no reason to put me on *jokes and make fun of me all the time, is it?

Well?

Is it?

At least I gathered these passages from my various logs, so y'all can see how /evil/ they are to me! ;-)

And here's what you've all been waiting for! Logs! Tata ;-)
I'm telling you, I had so much fun RPing these! :-D (some of the logs are not up yet - if you find a dead link, try again in a few days!)

Keris has a problem. It involves his sorry person and three fuming girls. Read on, read on...

Keris decides to finally get his act together and tell Liseria something important...

Keris is promoted to Journeyman! And later, Senior Journeyman. Read both logs here.

Picture this: Keris standing in the High Reaches Weyr bowl, one woman clinging to his left hand, another to his right, snarling at each other behind his back while he tries to tell them something about constellations. Intrigued? Then read on!

Keris gets drunk with Cipri, witnessed by the whole craft. And it's a very mushy log too! Cipri kisses Kortin, twice. Keris kisses Adar, twice... heh, read it!

Read the conclusion to the whole mess with Keris and Lis.

The whole StarCraft takes a trip to Paradise to gather sand for the lenses. And as always, Keris gets into a lot of trouble! :->

Conclusion, you thought? Well, seems Lis and Keris weren't quite over yet ;-) This log is quite long as well - but definitely worth reading! (Guess what Keris finally gets Lis into... quite literally ;-)

Natch, Holder of Gar Hold, wonders what the stars and constellations /really/ are all about, so Keris decides to tell a little tale...

Believe it or not - Keris becomes a father! Kinda, anyway...

Those StarCraft appies - can you believe them?! Read how they cruelly prank poor, clueless Keris.... ;-)

Remember Keris Impressing that gold lizard? Well, she flew and produced eggs - and I decided to throw a StarCraft-only hatching, where I had people submitting descs based on craftmembers. Hiarious? I'd say! Read this incredible killer-log!

Toldya Keris got 'fasted - here's the evidence, plus the circumstances which lead to it all :-)
The story behind it all.
The fasting itself.

That's it for now, more logs to come!
