We really do ride!!! We have a ride planned for Memorial Weekend. We are going to Pigeon Forge, TN. We will be leaving on Saturday May 29 and returning on Monday May 31. We will be staying at the Family Inn West across from the Grand Motel. The room rate is around $79.77. All you have to do is call and reserve your room. We will be meeting at Shoney's at Exit 14, Hwy 20 on GA 400 at 8:00 a.m. and will be leaving at 9:00 a.m. The route will be a lot of curves-so be prepared. We also have 50 rooms blocked for our chapter for the Georgia State Rally. The hotel is the Ramada Plaza Hotel. When you call for reservations tell them you are with the Atlanta Chapter. RIDE DIRECTOR'S REPORT Charleston, S.C., April 16-18 We have approximately 30 rooms booked so far. If you are thinking about going on this ride, be sure to make your reservations with Allison Mull, 770-486-8232. Traditionally w have had a large group on this ride. We have a lot of fun so don't miss out Don't Wait- call Allison at: 770-486-8232! We were unable to get a block of rooms at any one motel but Allison Mull will be assisting us in locating accommodations as close together as possible. So please give her a call early at 770-486-8232. Ride to Bike Week in Myrtle Beach, S.C., May 13-16 Ginger and I have never been to Myrtle Beach for Bike Week. We have always gone to Daytona in March. I have had some members inquire about a chapter ride for this event. So we have now planned one. We will meet May 13th at the Winn Dixie parking lot on Salem Road, exit 43 off I-20 in Conyers at 8:30 a.m. and leave at 9:00 a.m., sharp. Our return ride on May 16th will end at the same location. I will be leading the ride. Directions from Atlanta to meeting location, go I-20 East to Exit 43, turn right on Salem Road, go 1/4 mile to Winn Dixie on the left, along with Hardees and Dunkin Doughnuts across from AT&TT building. SECRETARY/TREASURER'S REPORT Congratulations to Sonny Guntermann for winning the attendance jackpot. He received a $60 gift certificate from Harley-Davidson of Atlanta. Congratulations to B.K. Ellis, who won a Harley cap. Marcie Cadou won a T-shirt, Mike Moreau won a shot glass, and James Cheek a mug. James also won the 50/50 drawing of $67. LADIES OF HARLEY'S REPORT New Hot-line Number! 770-908-3435 Beginning Monday February 23rd, thanks to the suggestion of our members, we now have a Hot-line for everyone to call for status of our rides and events. The number is 770-908-3435. I will update the message periodically. I will update each time we have an activity or ride planned to remind you of the upcoming events and/or changes that may occur. You can call the number day or night for information. This is a new project to see if it will benefit our members. Please call in and check out the new HOTLINE and also look at our WEB site. SAFETY OFFICER'S REPORT As reported in the January Newsletter, I now have the information for the Motorcycle Foundation Safety Program. When the program is successfully completed you will receive a $50.00 gift certificate from National H.O.G. When you complete the course see Rend or me with a copy of your certificate and you'll receive a form to submit to H.O.G. for your $50.00. Here is a list of the things you must have to take the class. For Experienced Riders: 1. You must have a Motorcycle License for at least 2 years 2. Full finger gloves. 3. A long sleeve shirt or jacket. 4. Boots that have a heal and cover the ankle. 5. A face shield for your helmet and safety glasses. 6. Long pants, preferably jeans. 7. NO LOUD PIPES! 8. Your bike must pass an inspection. The fee is $30.00 for GA Residents. I am told that if your bike does not pass the inspection, they will reschedule. This is a nine hour course; five hours in class and four hours on your motorcycle. You will need a pencil for the written test. For Beginners & Future HOGS The fee is $50 for GA Residents. You are supplied with a motorcycle and a helmet. This is a fifteen hour course, seven hours in class and nine hours on a motorcycle. You will need a pencil for the written test. To enroll call 1-800-245-4410 or in the Atlanta area 404- 669-2950. A package will be mailed to you and will have course schedules. In this newsletter you will find the south side schedules and location for this program. If you are on the Internet, click on the Georgia Dept of Public Safety Web site at: http://www.ganet.org/dps/ motorsaf.html. We have over seven hundred members in our H.O.G. chapter. We only need twelve members to pass this course to receive honorable mention in the HOG Tales magazine. Better hurry, classes fill up fast. Ride Loud, Ride Proud, See YA! Jimmy H. Perform pre-ride check, oil should register on dipstick of cold engine. Do not add oil to full mark on a cold engine. After engine is at normal operating temperature remove dipstick and check level. Add oil to top off at proper level. Transmission The transmission oil level should be checked monthly. When checking the transmission the motorcycle should be standing straight up, not on the jiffy stand. Check at normal operating temperature. Remove transmission dipstick plug and check its level. Lubricant should be between the two marks on the stick. Add lubricant as necessary do not overfill.
