School History
Primary School which was originally named St. Mary's School began in the year 1872 in Praya Lane. The founder was a Catholic priest named Fr. Maximillian de Souza. The school fees at the time was 3 cents per month .
The school was shifted to a building in front of St. Francis' Church in Jalan Laksamana in 1880. The administration and management of the school at that time was taken over by a French priest, Fr. Delouette. He changed the name of St. Mary's School to St.Francis' School.
Due to poor academic achievement and the lack of manpower in the teaching staff, goverment aid was withdrawn and the school was forced to close temporary for two months.
In October 1902, the De La Salle Mission agreed to manage the school again. The new re-registration exercise managed to attract 102 students. The number grew from time to time until it reached more than 500 students including classes in the secondary school.
By 1951 the number of students exceeded 1000 and so a new building especially for the primary school was built in Jalan Chan Koon Cheng. 1954 was a historic year for St. Francis Institution because the green and white school uniform was introduced and implemented for all school going children.
In 1959 the school was officially split into two schools. The primary school was known as St. Francis National Primary School which was fully aided by the government. Later the school was named St.Francis National Primary School following changes made to the Education Policy.
Sejarah Sekolah
Sk. St.Francis yang pada mulanya bernama St. Mary's School dimulakan pada tahun 1872 di Praya Lane. Pengasasnya ialah seorang padri, Father Maximillian de Souza. Yuran sekolah ketika itu hanya 3 sen sebulan.
Sekolah ini berpindah ke sebuah bangunan di hadapan Gereja St. Francis di Jalan Laksamana (Riverside) pada tahun 1880. Pentadbiran dan pengurusan sekolah pada masa itu diambil alih oleh Father Delouette, seorang padri Perancis. Beliau telah menukarkan nama St. Mary's School kepada St. Francis School.
Oleh kerana pencapaian akademik yang tidak memuaskan, dan kekurangan tenaga guru, bantuan kerajaan dihentikan dan sekolah terpaksa ditutup sementara selama 2 bulan. Dalam bulan Oktober 1902, Mubaligh De La Salle bersetuju menguruskan sekolah itu semula. Pendaftaran berjaya menarik 102 orang murid. Bilangan ini meningkat dari masa ke semasa sehingga melebihi 500 orang termasuk kelas-kelas menengah.
Pada tahun 1951, bilangan murid telah melebihi 1000 orang. Oleh yang demikian, sebuah bangunan baru,khasnya untuk sekolah rendah didirikan di Jalan Chan Koon Cheng. Tahun 1954 merupakan tahun yang bersejarah bagi St. Francis School kerana pakaian seragam sekolah yang berwarna hijau dan putih diperkenalkan dan dikuatkuasakan untuk semua murid sekolah.
Pada tahun 1959 pula, sekolah ini secara rasmi telah dibahagikan kepada sekolah rendah dan sekolah menengah. Sekolah rendah dikenali sebagai Sekolah Rendah Jenis Kebangsaan (Inggeris) St. Francis dengan mendapat bantuan penuh kerajaan. Kemudian,sekolah ini dinamakan Sekolah Rendah Kebangsaan St. Francis mengikut perubahan dalam Dasar Pendidikan.
Old Pupils Association : History and Activities
The St. Francis' Association or mest commonly referred to as the S.F.A. was established on the 17th of March 1917. The main Objective of the establishment of this association is to provide a place for Franciscans both old and new to convene for the sake of old times and also to advance their moral,physical and intellectual welfare.
The first meeting room of the S.F.A. was in one of the classrooms, not any in particular for then, the S.F.A. body resembled somewhat of a nomad as the venue for each meeting took place at different locations. However, all that changed when, the S.F.A. had its very own building, situated beside the S.F.I. Primary
Persatuan Murid Tua : Sejarah dan Aktiviti
Persatuan Murid Tua St. Francis atau lebih dikenali sebagai St.Francis' Association (S.F.A.) telah ditubuhkan pada 17 Mac 1917. Objektif utama penubuhan persatuan ini adalah untuk menyediakan tempat bagi bekas pelajar St.Francis (Franciscans) untuk bertemu disamping berkongsi pengalaman dan pengetahuan.
Bilik perjumpaan pertama untuk bekas pelajar ialah di dalam sebarang bilik darjah. Pada masa itu, persatuan ini seakan-akan orang nomad kerana setiap mesyuarat diadakan di dalam bilik darjah yang berlainan. Akan tetapi keadaannya telah berubah setelah sebuah bangunan S.F.A. dibina bersebelahan dengan Sk.St.Francis. Pengerusi pertamanya ialah Seow Eng Ghi .
Pada awal penubuhannya ia mengutamakan aktiviti sukan seperti bola sepak dan ping pong. Setelah persatuan berkembang pesat maka aktivitinya dipelbagaikan iaitu memperkembangkan pengetahuan dan minda
