Now a little about me. I started selling Avon when I was 21, as a service to my Fuller Brush customers. I had been selling Fuller for about 4 years. I started working in sales after I had been married 6mos. yes, the math shows I was married when I was 17 (25 years and still going strong). My first real sales business was started when I was 7 years old. I would go out in the fields, near my home, ( Crescent City, Calif., a very small town on the Calif. coast, bordering Oregon, and pick wild flowers, bundle them in a bouquet and sell them door to door. I quit school when I got married and decided to be a good house wife. That... lasted about 6 months. My husband, Don, or as some of you may know him from Avon's Presidents Club Bulletin board postings, "The Spouse" was working fulltime in the lumber mill and I was bored, so I started selling Fuller Brush. The following winter when the mill shut down
for it's annual maintenance, Don went out with me canvassing, him on one side of the road and me on the other .We averaged about $10 income per hour a piece, (the mill paid $4.05) Don never went back. That was the beginning of what was to become our life. We have been working side by side ever since. So when I get careless and refer to what "I" have done, I ALWAYS mean what "WE" have done. In those first years we had tremendous success and growth. Soon Don became a manager with Fuller Brush and I was in his section ( Eureka and Crescent City Ca.) Don was an employee and I was an independent contractor with Fuller. Don started going to college while he was manager. In 1978 we were rated as one of the top 10 districts in the U.S and Don WON  a trip to Puerta Vallarta for 10 days, when he returned ,within a couple of weeks, a new division manager was hired by Fuller from Revlon, she called to see about coming up to Eureka to see us, well...,
I had answered the phone and didn't think twice about telling her that " we would love to meet her, but don't come on Monday, Wednesday or Friday, because Don has classes...". She came on Thursday, the meeting was short, she said "we don't have part-time managers, you need to quit school." Don said " I currently have the highest dollar amount in sales per capita in the country and out of 500 managers he was #10 and considering that we have increased sales by 500% in the area, that maybe she should just stay in Sacramento and let well enough alone..." she said " If you can do that while going to school full time, think of what you could do if you were not in school..." (now I really think Don was a little premature here...) " I can't do that I quit." What happened after that I have trouble remembering in detail, however it did involve some yelling, threatening, crying and a "you can't do that" and a "you want to see me..." and a "...you are...#*%! so...INCORRIGIBLE" by the new district manager. ( on the job two weeks and her top manager quit...oh boy). Don did quit and Louella was fired and we have never allowed another W-2 form to enter our house again (lol). Don had to look up incorrigible in the dictionary, one of it's various definitions was " unemployable...". A month later
