Mercedes-Benz Production Models Book, 1946-1995

Two evocative initials, SL(for SuperLeicht or Super Light), have become inextricably associated with Mercedes-Benz, defining a successful line of desirable sports cars that continues to this day. This book, dealing with the pre-1971 cars, looks at the most classic SL's, the ones that are responsible for creating and developing a legend. There are four distict model phases in the family covered here. The consecutive Gullwing(1954-57) and Roadster(1957-63) versions of the six-cylinder 300SL differ so significantly that each receives a long chapter. The parallel four-cylinder 190SL(1955-63) is their small sister in specification and looks, and a much more affordable alternative. Finally came the outwardly similar 230SL, 250SL and 280SL(1963-71), collectively nicknamed the "Pagoda-roof" cars because of their unusual hard-top shape.

Marvelous color photography depicts the standard to which all automakers aspire. Covers the "car with star" from 1886 through the 1996.
