The Enchanter's Apprentice

Howard's first appearance was in the Marvel Comics monthly book, Adventures into Fear. At this time this ongoing title was featuring the adventures of Marvel's very own muck monster the Man-Thing. In this issue Man-Thing and a host of other characters were fighting a battle to protect the Nexus of All Reality (a doorway to infinite numbers of universes), and there he was on page 26 panel 5 without any fanfare or hoopla the very first time that he appeared in any comic. From this modest begining this little fella would go on to many great things in the late Seventies.
