And then the next week a new season was born, Sailor Moon S. I almost died during the first episode, when I got my heart crystal taken, but I survived, so... back to the subject. With a newer, more dangerous type of enemy, the Death Busters, Sailormoon's old powers didn't work anymore. Her love with Mamoru created a new heart-shaped brooch, and a new rod, the Spiral Heart Moon Rod. The brooch had a new activation phrase which was "Moon Cosmic Power Make-Up" and the new attack sequence which was "Moon Spiral Heart Attack."
Which did not seem enough, because she was faced with two mysterious senshi: Sailoruranus and Sailorneptune, who were lesbian lovers as senshi and as Kaioh Michiru and Tenoh Haruka. Sailoruranus and Neptune had their own agenda: getting the three talismans that, when brought together, made the Holy Grail. With more danger and action things only got harder for Sailormoon, myself, and the other senshi.
However she had a steady relationship with Mamoru, and help from Chibiusa (as Sailorchibimoon), who came back from the future for more training. Sailorchibimoon might have seemed like a burden, though, because she was weak. But she did boost everyone's morale often. Sailormoon was patient for going through the outer planetary senshi's antics and the Death Buster's traps, because the Death Busters were more dangerous than all the other enemies with their daimons and the Witches Five. Never were we in so many life-threatening situations before.
And by the time our friend Meioh Setsuna, Sailorpluto's identity on Earth, appeared again, the three talismans were already found, and soon the Holy Grail was formed. In an action-studded sequence Eudial of the Witches 5 and Sailormoon both raced for the chalice but Sailormoon got it first, and darkness succumbed. In a new transformation sequence involving Sailormoon, Sailormoon gathered a massive amount of power within her and said "Crisis Make-Up," and in a short flurry involving energetic little butterflies she transformed into Supersailormoon and, still wielding the Spiral Heart Moon Rod, had a new attack sequence, "Rainbow Moon Heart Ache". Everytime she powered up to Supersailormoon with the chalice she was worn out and she fainted back into regular Sailormoon.
Usagi-chan was pressured with problems coming from everywhere: the enemy (The Death Busters), the Outer Senshi, her family, Chibiusa, and finally, the Messiah of Silence. Especially with Haruka and Michiru always teasing Usagi, and occasionaly Haruka would flirt with her, making Michiru jealous.
Sailormoon only intended to make everyone happy, and she wanted everyone to become friends. She even attempted to sacrifice herself to save Mistress Nine, an evil entity in possesion of Tomoe Hotaru's body. Hotaru had recently become Chibiusa's good friend at a park one day, and Usagi saw the good in that. But influenced by extreme evil, Hotaru swallowed Chibiusa's pure heart crystal and became Mistress Nine, to everyone's dismay. Chibiusa fell ill.
It was in a confrontation in the Infinity Academy Building. Then Sailorneptune and Sailoruranus, with all their high-prided arrogance and their style of getting things done stylishly and quickly, started yelling at Sailormoon to kill Mistress Nine, even though they knew Hotaru was still alive. Sailormoon wouldn't give up hope. In the confrontation involving Uranus, Neptune, Professer Tomoe, and Mistress Nine, (and eventually Pharoah Ninety), Sailormoon's emotions and power limitations were truly tested. She proved how caring she was and how she knew goodness would always defeat evil, even though Neptune and Uranus were always dubious and doubting her.
She wouldn't let anyone touch the evil-faced Hotaru, and she even gave the chalice to Professor Tomoe to help save Hotaru-- but that in turn sparked the arrival of Pharaoh Ninety. In return though Hotaru defeated Mistress 9; Hotaru gathered up the little strength she had in here and she overcame. Soon she saved Chibiusa and turned into Sailorsaturn. Without the Holy Grail, Sailormoon couldn't perform her two-stage transformation, and she couldn't stop Pharaoh Ninety. So Sailorsaturn opted to defeat what Mistress Nine had started.
However, Sailormoon felt it wasn't enough so she tried to transform into Supersailormoon. She started yelling "Crisis Make-Up" to no avail, but with the other senshi's powers combined she actually did. (I remember standing in a black mist, floating aimlessly, while the tiara of the other three senshi's started glowing, and I guess mine did too. I could feel Sailormoon's thoughts--so powerful, so sincere, so pure.) Sailormoon pounded on the rocky floor but with our powers combined, her heart crystal conformed with her brooch and our powers, and she appeared before crumpled butterfly wings, only to expand to full span.
In an emotional act of desperation and freedom Supersailormoon defeated Pharaoh Ninety and saved Sailorsaturn, and Hotaru turned into a baby. One episode later I remember Sailormoon challenging Neptune and Uranus and winning with the power of the ginzuishou, and the two had a new-found respect for her, and they respected her foolish but heartliy kind actions in saving the world and Sailorsaturn. (Hotaru was so cute as a baby!) And then, in the next episode, Sailorchibimoon finally proved her power by defeating a daimon we all had trouble with! She stayed for one more season, too bad.
Well, her "Moon Spiral Heart Attack" sequence surpassed her "Rainbow Moon Heart Ache" for long-livity. "Rainbow Moon Heart Ache" disappeared with SMS's Supersailormoon and in the fourth season, Sailormoon SuperS, "Cosmic Moon Power Make-Up" and "Moon Spiral Heart Attack" reappeared for a few episodes before they became obsolete like Sailor Moon's previous attacks and henshins. Again Usagi and Chibiusa's compacts and weapons were changed, and Sailormoon wielded the Moon Kaleidoscope.
In Sailor Moon SuperS Usagi said "Moon Crisis Make-Up" to transform into Supersailormoon along with Chibiusa. However her transformation was only a one-step procedure into Supersailormoon, and she didn't have to transform into Sailormoon first and then to Supersailormoon. The two received this power from the Pegasus, who only appeared in beautiful dreams, and was the target of the enemy.
Also in Sailormoon SuperS Usagi toned down a bit, becoming the comedic klutz she tried not to become, for comedic purposes. She was so clueless! And it was really funny at times, although I didn't like to admit it. Ironically, Chibiusa matured a little, although she was somewhat uncoordinated also.
Usagi's relationship with Mamoru was stronger, although it was really strong to start with; and her relationship with Chibusa also strengthened; they seemed to have a strong sibling-relationship.
Well the central theme of Sailormoon SuperS was mirrors and reflections. Usagi was usually confronted with mirrors, her attack was based on a kaleidoscope (which involves mirrors) and there were serious moments to contrast the amusing moments when Usagi had to reflect on herself and evaluate herself, like the time we were walking down Zirconia's hall of mirrors. Like a reflection of the previous three seasons. Anyway, I was a victim of mirrors also. Yeah they pointed out all the fashion mistakes I had made.
Well, the enemy didn't get too tough in SuperS. The Amazoness Quartet, a scheming group of girls, were eventually found to be utterly innocent of evil--merely manipulated by Queen Neherenia and Zirconia. Supersailormoon herself risked her life for them, and in turn they helped us out.
The next few events made me realize how much Usagi really cared for Chibiusa. Even though Supersailorchibimoon would be doing most of the action, Supersailormoon was there with her. Supersailormoon even committed suicide... well, almost. But that really touched me.
Supersailorchibimoon used the power of the Golden Crystal to defeat the Dead Moon Circus, and she made everyone on earth chant "Moon Crisis Power." Soon the Dead Moon Circus was defeated, and the debris--what was left of the circus, as well as all the other circuses that somehow found their way to the earth when Neherenia wielded the Golden Crystal-- was going to where it had originally belong. Queen Neherenia wasn't defeated though; she would just end up getting sealed into her mirror, to live beautifully for eternity. There was one particular moment where Queen Neherenia pushed Chibimoon off a building, and Supersailormoon heroically jumped off and tried to save her. Supersailormoon was utterly in tears, as Chibimoon would not wake up; Moon knew that, having tried to use it once before, she could not control the power of the Golden Crystal by herself. Struggling, and still falling, she transformed into Princess Serenity. Yet Supersailorchibimoon would not wake up. The eclipse which had fatigued the earth was gone though.
Serenity, still hugging Chibimoon, begged and pleaded for Chibimoon to wake up, to open her eyes... they could dream together as adults. Finally Chibimoon came to, and at the most crucial time she called for Helios. The Pegasus finally arrived, and Princess Serenity and Supersailorchibimoon even grew wings.
We parted with Helios, although we never said goodbye to the four Amazoness Quartet girls. Helios even kissed Chibiusa.
And was that the end of Neherenia? Would the animators just let her stay content sealed up in her mirror? No. Neherenia reappeared in the next week, in the next and final season, Sailormoon Sailorstars. Read more about Usagi and our adventures on the next page... things only got more interesting.
