TALENT..................

We really had talent but didn't go far...wonder why?. Actually the talent breeds originally from Pak Tok who was an accomplished sax player, then our Dad playing the piano and accordian. For us no one excell in any musical instrument, ....Nain nearly got there but after Dad's punishing lessons and Nain's 'deteriorating mood', Nain did not make it.Those days when Nain is at the piano with Dad, we had fun time playing outside...pity Nain. Nain did establish himself on stage playing the piano to the tune of negara ku every morning at his school's assembly (Bandar Hilir English School). His 2 little brothers(Pandi and Ikram) felt proud watching him up there.

The real momemt came when Dad's Police 5 piece band played a free concert at Tampin 's town padang and he introduced us one by one,the cutest was Marina and Marziah. The dress we wore were all tailored by our own mom...you'll never get that kind of love anywhere.we sang and danced and the crowd gave a thunderous applause. we felt proud and was determined to make a name after that .So we auditioned for the national 'Bakat TV' competition but Lan forgot his lyrics when it came his time to sing...there goes our dream forever. We could have been the 'The Osmonds'of Malaysia

FOOD.........

And food was plentiful in Penang..the bihun Singapura at Restaurant 'Caraven A', the bubor kacang nearby, Kassim Nasi Kandak, Apin and Tener serving us hotdog beside Cathay theatre at Penang Road, Dad's favourite mee kari  near the Police HQ, and the laksa at Ayer Itam. We remember the mee mamak mobile stall that eventualy stop in front of our house gate in Perak Road. And also the mamak who came right to our doorstop selling all the various morning kueh on his 'big basket' bicycle. We always look forward to Dad's payday when he will bring us to the seafood stall at Padang Kota Lama , just beside Dewan Sri Pinang.

GROWING UP........

Growing up was mostly in Penang where most of us was exposed to the teenage and adult world. Penang was nice and the best was staying at 17 Perak Road (often called the 'Red House' in the police records...don't ask why). Lan got his first job as a cashier at Bank Bumiputra USM and his first bike, Suzuki 125cc. Nande, always the flamboyant kid, became 'Jebat' in a stage show attracting alot of girls. Pandi always sticking to his friend Rosli playing pinballs after school . Ikram winning the Batu Lanchang school competition and losing his girlfriend to Pandi (Until today, he won't forgive Pandi for that).
And that was also the time of 'Play that Funky music' and 'Machine Gun' music where we attended some parties and everyone showed their dancing stuff. Dad also bought a second hand speedboat and we tried this in the sea infront of Gurney Drive, we felt proud ..only for a short when it suddenly broke down in the middle of the sea infront of alot of people. Just imagine the embarrasment trying to paddle the 'speedboat' back to the beach... And who would forget when Roslan, driving mom's new Datsun car with some of the siblings, hit an old Chinese man, at Green Lane...and everyone scrambled and left the scene like a lightning.

RELIGIOUS.............

Though most of us were ' nakal' those days, we did get involved in religion very early as mom was strict on this. Maybe due to her being Kelantanese , ...the Malay majority in that state were very much into religious activities.Even 'Tok Gurus' (religious teacher) in Kelantan were very highly respected ,on par with the mentri besars.

Mom would alway call us to sit infront of her, after maghrib, to read the quran...when we got naughtier during the session, she just send them to 'Kelas Mengaji'(Quran Reading classes). Everytime there is call of prayer, without fail she'll always tell us to go and pray. Though she did not shout at the kids, eventually the kids learned it through their own accord and to this present day, they commit themselves to Allah when prayer time comes.Fasting was one way we learned through mom..in a way it promised us 'duit raya and baju raya' at the end of Ramadan.'Sahur' was not easy for mom because the kids did not wake up immediately, it takes several times to wake them up.And when it comes to opening fast, it was a thrill to see  all those 'hungry faces' waiting to pounce on the 'air sirap'once the 'azan' sounded. And they really eat, and eat, and eat.......

Most of the brothers had one time in their life, attended dakwah sessions including tabliqh. They really look like Bin Laden those days...in fact all dakwah people do look like Bin Laden. They were used to eating in one big pan with other dakwah people , termed as 'makan satu dulang'. and colgate was out of the question when come to brushing teeth..they used 'kayu sugi' (herbal stick)
