Lebanon must not be launch pad for attacks, says Israel after air strike

JERUSALEM : Deputy Defense Minister Zeev Boim said Israel would not allow Lebanon to serve as a springboard for attacks after carrying out an air strike close to its northern neighbour's capital.

Israeli warplanes bombed positions of a radical Palestinian group some 20 kilometres (12 miles) south of the Lebanese capital late Monday, although there were no immediate reports of casualties.

The raid was in response to an earlier mortar attack that Israel said targeted one of its naval vessels patrolling in Israeli territorial waters.

Islamic Mutilation of Slaves ... 'They Love to See Blood Flow'
Sudan
The mutilation of slaves
The long queue, which moves slowly towards us, has come to a halt. "Bar, bar," one of our Sudanese helpers calls to me, which means "Please come here, quickly!" Under an acacia tree stands a wooden table upon which there is a glass plate with a thin layer of printer's ink rolled onto it. As a rule we take a fingerprint of the right index finger of each returned slave, but this young woman has no such finger on her right hand.

Israel's plans to build what is described as a high-tech, "super amphibious attack ship" as the cornerstone of a new naval strategy for the 21st century is certain to raise objections in the Arab world, says a report in the latest issue of Joseph Farah's G2 Bulletin, the premium online intelligence newsletter published by WND.

Turkey recalls ambassador to Israel
TURKEY has summoned its ambassador to Israel home for consultations, to protest Israel's policies in the West Bank and Gaza, Israeli media said today.

Israeli Foreign Ministry officials could not immediately be reached for comment.

The Yediot Ahronot Daily said the ambassador and Turkey's consul general in Jerusalem returned to Turkey, less than a week after Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan compared Israel's actions against Palestinians to the treatment of Jews during the Spanish Inquisition.

Bilateral trade between Israel and Turkey reached US$1.2 billion in 2002, and Turkey has bought US$3 billion worth of Israeli weapons since 1996.

Turkey is also a top foreign holiday destination, visited by some 300,000 Israelis a year.

Christian beaten to death by policeofficer
Policeman: 'I have offered my religious duty ... I'm spiritually satisfied'

Samuel Masih was buried in Lahore, Pakistan, yesterday following injuries he received from a Muslim policeman who beat the 27-year-old Christian with a hammer as he lay in his hospital bed recovering from a bout of tuberculosis.

Masih had been in jail since Aug. 23, 2003, awaiting trial on charges of blasphemy under Pakistan's strict "Law 295" - which forbids desecrating the Quran and "defiling" the name of Islam's prophet, Muhammad. On the day of his arrest, Masih was collecting garden rubbish, which he heaped temporarily against the wall of a mosque in Lahore's Lawrence Gardens section while collecting more that he planned to burn later. This action brought the blasphemy charge, which carries a maximum two-year prison sentence.

Thousands of Iranians ready for suicide raids
By Parinoosh Arami

TEHRAN (Reuters) - Thousands of Iranians have signed up for suicide attacks on Israel, U.S.-led forces in Iraq and British author Salman Rushdie, a recruiting group said on Saturday.

Shi'ite Iran has strongly condemned the occupation of Iraq and voiced its outrage at damage to shrines in the holy cities of Najaf and Kerbala.
The father of Iran's 1979 Islamic revolution, Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, condemned Rushdie to death in 1989 for alleged blasphemy in his novel "The Satanic Verses".
"Some 10,000 people have registered their names to carry out martyrdom operations on our defined targets," said Mohammad Ali Samadi, a spokesman for the Committee for the Commemoration of Martyrs of the Global Islamic Campaign.
