Windows NT 4.0

Windows NT is more for my taste then Windows95/98. Windows is more or less the business version of Windows. First it was developed by IBM and Microsoft and the project was called OS/2 NT but never got its way into the shelves in PC shops. In the early 1990s IBM and Microsoft disagreed in how they market their products and parted. Microsoft released the first Windows NT (Advanced Server 3.1) by 1996 the present version NT 4.0 was on the market.
Windows NT 4.0 has a more Win95 look alike desktop but it is not able to run older 16 bit software. Furthermore you don't have PnP (Plug and Pray!?!). All drivers you have to install manually. However you still can enable a bit of Plug and Play to install some sound cards. But the most imported feature of NT is its stable kernel and networking. For problems with the kernel and STOP error messages look below at HOWTO Blue Screen.
NT is designed to run rather in a network environment then as a stand alone system. Therefore you get it in two flavours Workstation and Server. Both are actually the same operating system, only that the server version has more services and applications then the workstation. You get many tools and services for free from the Internet. I have been working with many useful networking tools for NT like LCCM, Netfinity Manager, etc.. I hope my page will help you to use NT.

HOWTOs
NT STOP error messages the dreaded "Blue Screen of Death" (under construction!)
Memory dump in Windows NT, how you can read the information of it and how you get it in the first place
Minimum requrements for NT don't ever trust the "box". Have you ever tried to install NT Server on a 80486 with 33MHz? Here I showing all considerations to run NT on your machine
NT Server hardware requirement What you need to run an NT Server effizient.
DNS Server Installing and configuring in NT Server
Imprive Large File Copy An NT network is not configured to copy files effizient default. Here is to improve it.
MTU under NT If you realy fancy a mixed network with Token Ring and Ethernet (or someting else) you may find that it would be fast to copy files from one PC to the other but very slow to copy it back the same way. Here is to fix it.
disable/enable AutoRun CD-Rom Every time you insert a CD with Autorun in your CD-ROM drive something pops up. If it is annoing you, you can disable it.
Secure Windows NT NT is not the most secure OS especialy if you don't configure it.
OS/2 and Posix Subsystem Some people like me may use it but I think I am an exeption. You may like to get rid of it.
SCO Dual-Boot If you like to have SCO Unix and NT on one PC.
