Capital Letters
Why are capital letters used?
Capital letters are used to
begin the first work of a sentence and proper nouns.
Proper nouns include names such as (Lisa), or places such
as (Boston), and things like a book or magazine.
How are capital letters typed?
They are typed using the
Shift key.
** Hold down the fourth finger
or the pinky finger on
your right hand to type a
capital letter on the left
side of the keyboard.
** Hold down the fourth finger
or the pinky finger on
your left hand to type a capital
letter on the right side of
the keyboard.
How do you type several capital
letters in a row?
By pressing the Caps
Lock key. Pressing this key
makes all the letters you type capital letters such as USA.
The Caps Lock key is pressed using the fourth finger of your left hand.

Backspace , Tab, and Quotation keys
What is the Backspace key and how is it typed?
The Backspace key is used to
delete text to the left of the insertion point.
It is typed by reaching up and
depressing the key with the right pinky finger.
What is the Tab key and how is it
typed?
The Tab key is used to
indent the first line of paragraphs. The
default tab is .5 to the right of the left margin.
It is typed by reaching up and
depressing the key with the left pinky finger.
What is the (quotation) key
and how is it typed?
The quotation key(s) are
placed around quoted words within a book, magazine, or paper.
It is typed by using the right pinky
finger or the ; (semi) home row key.

and Other Spacing Guidelines
What is single spacing (SS)?
It means typing with no
blank lines in between each line of text.
What double spacing (DS)?
It means typing with 1 blank line in between each line of text.
One must press the Enter key twice when using the double spacing
technique.
How many spaces
after a period (.) or question mark(?)?
2
spaces are used after a period or question mark which ends a sentence.
How many space(s)
after a comma (,)?
One
space should be left after a comma.
