Use this list to perform additional commands in Microsoft Word.

Selecting Text (you must do this before you can perform ANY commands)
1) Drag your mouse and hold down the button to "blacken" the text you want to select.

Left Align, Right Align, Justify & Center
Looks at the way text is positioned on the page.

1) Select or blacken your desired text.  (see above for details on selecting)
2) Then find the icon/buttons on the Toolbar which say either Align Left, Right, Center, or Justify.
3) Once you find the button you want, then press it.

Another way to align left, right, justify, or center
1) Select or blacken your desired text.
2) Choose Format, Paragraph from the Menu Bar (that's the bar with the words)
3) Then go to the "Alignment" section, press the down arrow and choose which alignment you want.

Vertically Center (this centers text between the top and bottom margins)
1) Select or blacken your desired text
2) Choose File, Page Setup from the Menu Bar in Microsoft Word.
3) Choose the Layout tab at the top of the open window.
4) Go to the "Vertical Alignment" section of the open window, then choose Center.
5) This will center the text between the top and bottom margins.

Increase the Size of Text or Font size
This increases or decreases the size of characters.

1) Select or blacken your desired text.
2) Choose Format, Font
3) Go to Font Size and choose the point size you want.
4) Then press Okay

Another way is to do the following
1) Select or blacken the desired text
2) Go to the Toolbars (this is where the icon buttons are) and find the button that says "Font Size". 
3) Press the down arrow and choose your desired font size.

Bold, Italics, and Underline
This applies certain attributes to text.

1) Select or blacken your desired text.
2) Choose Format, Font
3) Then go to the "Font Style" section and choose whether you want whether you want Bold, Italics, or both.
4) If you want to underline, then go to the "Underline" section of the open window, press the down arrow and choose your desired underline.

Another way to bold, italics, and underline
1) Select or blacken your desired text.
2) Go to the Toolbars (where the icon buttons are), then click either "B" for bold or "I" for italics or "U" for underline.

Changing Font
This changes the typeface of characters.  This features makes them dressy (serif) or non-dressy (sans serif).

1) Select or blacken your desired text
2) Next, choose Format, Font from the Menu Bar (that's the bar with the words)
3) In the section where it says "Font", then pick the desired font that you want.

Another way to change the font
1) Select or blacken the desired text.
2) Go to the Toolbar (where the icon buttons are), then find place your mouse over the button that says "font".
3) Press the down arrow and choose your desired font.

Creating Bullets
Places symbols by a listing or text or numbers.

1) Select or blacken your desired text.
2) Choose the icon button that says "Bullets" from the Toolbar.

Another way to do it
1) Select or blacken your desired text.
2) Choose Format, Bullets & Numbering from the Menu Bar (that's the bar with the words)
3) Choose the Bullets tab, then choose your desired bullets.

Creating a Numbered List
1) Select or blacken your desired text.
2) Choose the icon button that says "Numbered" from the Toolbar.

Another way to do it
1) Select or blacken your desired text.
2) Choose Format, Bullets & Numbering from the Menu Bar (that's the bar with the words)
3) Choose the Numbered tab, then choose the type of  Numbered List you desire.

Creating Symbols
1) Select or blacken your desired text.
2) Choose Format, Font from the Menu Bar (that's the bar with the words)
3) Go to the "Font" section and choose the font type  (for example Wingdings)

Creating Greek and Wingding Symbols
1) Select desired text.
2) Choose Insert, Symbol
3) Click the down arrow in the box where it says "Font" to "Times New Roman" or any other Font.
4) Go to the area that says "Subset", and choose "Basic Greek" or any other subset.

Indenting Text
Used to pull text in from the left or right margins.

1) Select or blacken your desired text.  (see above for details on selecting)
2) Then choose Format, Paragraph from the Menu Bar (that's the bar with the words)
3) Go to the area that says "Indention", and choose whether or not you want a left, right, or special (hanging or first line) indent.
4) Once you choose, then you must type in the inch amount.  For example, if you want to begin a paragraph at 1 inch, then you'll type in "1" or "1.0" in the desired indention area.

Hanging or First Line Indents
Indents only the first line of text or all other lines of text in a paragraph depending on which option is chosen.

1) Select or black your desired text.
2) Choose Format, Paragraph from the Menu Bar
3) Go to the area marked "Indention", then choose the portion that says "Special".
4) Next, choose either Firstline or Hanging and then type in by what inch measure you want.  For example .5 or 1 inch.
5) Press okay when you get complete.

Another way to align do indentions
1) Select or blacken your desired text.
2) Go to the ruler and choose either the top, bottom, or right triangles and drag them on the ruler to your desired inch measure.  (Note:  You'll have to place your mouse on the triangles or on the rectangle on the ruler to know which one is for right, left, hanging, firstline, etc.

Changing Line Spacing
1) Select or blacken your text by dragging your mouse over it.
2) Choose Format, Paragraph, then go to the area that says "Line Spacing"
3) Choose either Single, Double, etc. by pressing the down arrow.
4) OR press the icon/buttons on the Formatting toolbar for "single" or "double" space.

Changing Margins
1) Choose File, Page Setup
2) Select the "Margins" tab and type in the desired top, bottom, left, and right margin in the appropriate area.

Copy Formatting or Format Painting
This feature allows you to apply the same formatting setting over and over in a document.
Example:  If one paragraph has green text, and you want the other paragraphs to have the same green text, then you can use format painter.

1) Select or blacken the text with your desired formatting already in it.
2) Next, press the "Paintbrush" icon/button on the Toolbar.
3) Next, paint the paintbrush over the text that you want the formatting settings to be applied.

Page Break
Forcing a page break within a document.

1) Place your insertion point where you want the page break to occur.
2) Choose Insert, Break, then Page Break.

Changing Margins or Page Setup
This involves changing the margins or the page setup of the page.

1) Open the document.
2) Choose File, Page Setup from the Menu Bar.
3) Change the margins either the top, bottom, left, or right.  Your figures will either be .5, .75, 1.0, 2.0, etc. inches.

Page or Print Layout View
This allows the user to see the document as if it were going to be printed.

1) Open the desired document.
2) Choose View, Print Layout
3) The document appears on the page like on an actual sheet of paper.

Print Preview or Print Viewing
This allows the user to view the document before printing

1) Choose File, Print Preview OR the icon which looks like a sheet of paper with a magnifying glass on it.

Another way to do it
1) Click the icon/button that looks like a "sheet of paper with a magnifying glass on it"

Copy and Paste
Creates a duplicate of text.

1) Select or blacken your desired text.
2) Choose Edit, Copy
3) Click your mouse where you want the duplicate copy of the text to go.
4) Choose Edit, Paste

Another way to do it
1) Select or blacken your text that you want to copy
2) Choose the icon/button that says "Copy" (Note: You may have to move your mouse over the buttons to find out which one is copy)
3) Now click your mouse where you want the copied text to go.
4) Next, click the "Paste" icon button.

Cut and Paste
Deletes or moves text.

1) Select or blacken your desired text.
2) Choose Edit, Cut
3) Click your mouse where you want the cut text to go.
4) Choose Edit, Paste

Another way to do it
1) Select or blacken your text that you want to copy
2) Choose the icon/button that says "Cut"or the one that looks like the scissors.
 (Note: You may have to move your mouse over the buttons to find out which one is copy)
3) Now click your mouse where you want the copied text to go.
4) Next, click the "Paste" icon button.

Moving or Dragging Text (Drag-n-Drop)
1) Select or blacken your desired text.
2) Place your mouse within the blackened text, then press and hold the mouse button.
3) Move your mouse or drag your text to your new desired location.

Spell Check and Grammar
Used to check the spelling and grammar of words.

1) Choosing the Spelling and Grammar button on the toolbar.  Make any necessary corrections to text as needed.
2) The user may also choose Tools, Spelling and Grammar.

Creating Tab Stops
This allows the cursor to stop when you press the TAB key on the keyboard.

1) Before you begin to create your customized tabs, survey the information that you want to include in your tabs.
2) You must begin or create your tabs BEFORE you type the text that you want to be tabbed.
3) Choose Format, Tabs
4) Then choose "Clear All" to clear all existing tabs.
5) Type the inch measurement that you want for your tab or tabs.
6) Then choose the type of tab you want (left, right, decimal, etc.)
7) If you want dots or leaders within your tab, choose the Leader option that you may want.
8) Press Set, then Okay
9) When you begin to type your text, you will press the tab key on the keyboard to place text at the correct position in the document.

Templates
Pre-defined or pre-set documents in Microsoft Word.  These documents already have the formatting  set.  The user just needs to add their specific text.

1) Choose View, Task Pane
2) Next, Choose General Templates at the bottom of the Task Pane.
3) Choose the type of template you desire.  This may be letters, memos, resumes, web pages, etc.
4) Once the document opens, add your specific text and then print.
