ALLEN, Richard

Richard Allen, age 68, recently passed away. A long time resident of Schurz, Richard was born in Fallon, NV on February 20, 1932 to Tom Allen and Mammie Lulu Dale.

He attended Carson Indian School from 2945 to 1948,

Richard was emplyed as custodian at Indian Health Services in Schurz and drove the ambulance for the Schurz Indian Hospital. He also worked for the Churchill County Schools. He retired in 1985.

On one occassion, Richard helped put out a railroad boxcar fire of explosives in Schurz and helped prevent loss of property and lives. For this he received an award from President John F. Kennedy.

He played in a popular local band that he formed called the "Crushers" in the 60's, Ge was a well known and popular bull rider in the local circuits and held membership with the NIRA-Nevada Indian Rodeo Association.

Richard is survived by his wife, Eliza Allen of Schurz; daughter, Elaine R,. Bender of Pinetop, AZ, son, Richard Thomas Allen of Schurz; grandson, Shiloe Hyoungblond Bender of Pinetop, AZ; uncle, Teddy Allen of Schurz; brother, Andrew Allen of Schurz; and sisters, Mary Johnson, Irene Williams, Marjorie Johnson and Catherine Martinez, all of Schurz. Also numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held tomorrow, Thursday, August 17, at 11:00 a.m. at the Schurz TribalGym. A potluck dinner will follow. Donations are being accepted in lieu of flowers are greatly needed and appreciated by the family at the service.

Michelle Lee Alsman of Sonora died Friday at a Riverbank care home after a long illness. She was 51. She was born in Hawthorne, Nev. She lived in Riverbank for 12 years, and most of the rest of her life in Sonora. She worked at her father's business, Beauty & the Budget, in Sonora, and at the store in Oakdale before it closed.

She is survived by two sons, Jason Allen of Modesto and Brandon Allen of Riverbank; a daughter, Brittany Allen of Riverbank; her father, Charles Little of Sonora; two brothers, Richard Little of Glen Ellen and Clint Little of Oakdale; two sisters, Robin Denys and Stacy Skaggs, both of Oakdale; a stepmother, Yvonne Arnett of Sonora; and a stepsister, Dana Arnett of Riverbank.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Jacquelyn, and by a sister, Dawn Gavi.

A graveside service was to be held today at Chinese Camp Cemetery in Chinese Camp.

ARCHULETA, Fred O.

Fred O. Archuleta age 81, a long time resident of Hawthorne, passed away Wednesday, 23 May 2001 at Washoe Medical Center in Reno. Fred was born 1 March 1920 in Cerro, New Mexico, a son of Nicanor and Beatriz Quintana Archuleta.

Fred moved to Hawthorne in 1950, coming here from Cerro, New Mexico. He was retired from the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hawthorne, where he had worked for 30 yrs. He was an Army Veteran of WW II. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2313. He was also a member of the National Association of Retired Federal Employees of Hawthorne Chapter #1854.

Fred was a parishioner of Our Lord of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, and was a member of Knights of Columbus.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers. His survivors are his wife, Ruth Archuleta of Hawthorne; sons, David Archuleta (wife Lori) and grandson Kristopher, all of Stratham, New Hampshire, Johnny Archuleta (wife Rhonda) and four grandchildren, Amanda, John, Chris, and Leeanna, all of Sparks, Nevada; a sister, Tessie Atencio of Denver, Colorado; and many nieces and nephews.

A Rosary was held on Monday, 28 May 2001 at Gunter’s Funeral Home Chapel. Visitation was Monday, 28 May from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Gunter’s Funeral Home. A Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, 29 May at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, with burial following at the Hawthorne the Hawthorne Cemetery, with full military honors. Barnhurst, Richard N.

Richard N. Barnhurst, age 57, entered into eternal life on November 21, 2003 at his home in Hawthorne, Nevada after losing his fight with cancer. He was born in Tonopah, Nevada on September 13, 1946. He was raised in Mina and Hawthorne until he joined the Army in October of 1963. After he was honorably discharged, he returned to Hawthorne and went to work for NAD Hawthorne, which is now DZHC.

Richard was very involved with Search and Rescue, achieving certificates in Tracking and Tracker Instructor. Through this organization, Richard made many close and valuable friends with the other members of the Mineral County Search and Rescue.

Richard is preceded in death by his parents, John and Betty Casey and son David Morris. Richard is survived by his wife, Rita Barnhurst of Hawthorne; daughter Tracy Chavez of Hawthorne; sons David Barnhurst of Roswell, Georgia; Michael Barnhurst of Athens, Georgia and John Morris of Las Vegas, Nevada; brother John Casey of Sun Valley, Nevada.

BASSETT, Robert M.

Robert M. Bassett passed away at age 81 on 9 Jul 2000 at Mount Grant Hospital in Hawthorne. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on 20 Oct 1918 to Robert and Ella Nugent Bassett.

Robert has lived in Hawthorne since 1985, coming from Silver Springs, NV. He was a retire auto mechanic, retiring in 1980.

Robert was a member of American Legion Post #19 and V.F.W. Post #2313, both of Hawthorne, Model Railroad Club of Fallon, was an avid skier, rollerskater, hiker, and ski instructor.

Robert served as a B-52 bomber pilot during WWII in the European Theatre.

Preceding him in death were his parents, one brother, seven daughters and eight sons. Surviving Robert are his daughter, Roberta Barr of Hawthorne; companion, Dorothy Peterson of Hawthorne; and grandson, Leroy Denten of Minnesota.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, July 17, at 10:00 a.m. at Gunter’s Funeral Home Chapel in Hawthorne. Burial will take place Monday, July 17, at 2:00 p.m. at the Norther Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Fernley, NV. Arrangements are under the direction of Gunter’s Hawthorne Funeral Home.

BIRCHUM, Delores Marie

Delores Marie (Williams) Birchum passed away at the age of 71, at Fallon Community Hospital on 15 Jul 2000. She was born at Schurz, NV on 4 Jul 1929, a daughter of Murphy and Mamie Williams.

Delores was a homemaker. As a youth she attended Stewart Indian School.

Surviving are her sons, Roger Cunha Sr., Calvin Birchum, Ronnie Birchum, Charles Birchum, Elvin Willie and Edward Willie; daughters, Linda Willie, Karen Harrison, Joni Birchum, Joleen Birchum and Eileen Birchum; brothers, Elvin, Jack, Clarence and Everett Williams; and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

Bisagno, Rosie

Rosie Bisagno, 92, a resident of Hawthorne, passed away on November 23, 1999. Rosie was born in Capriata d’Orba, Italy on 18 Jul 1907.

Rosie’s family moved to San Francisco, CA in the early 1900's and she later married Peter Bisagno. They moved to Placerville, CA with their family from Italy and purchased a farm. As a result of the pear decline, they sold their farm. Following the death of her husband, Rosie took up her longing for traveling. She took her camper, and alone went to Baha for many trips. She loved rocks and cactus and had beautiful gardens. She is fondly rememberedby her Bisagno and Castaldi families.

Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 30, 1999, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Placerville, CA, with burial in Westwood Hills Memorial Park. BLACK, Fred Leroy

Fred Leroy Black passed away at age 62 on 8 Jul 2000 at Mount Grant General Hospital in Hawthorne. He was born in Henryetta, Oklahoma on 11 Nov 1937 to William and Thelma White Black.

Fred has lived in Hawthrne for the past 22 years coming from CA. He operated a courier service in Hawthorne as well as working for Mount Grant Hospital.

He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1976.

He was a member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge #1704, Hawthorne and a member of First Christian Church.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Bill Black. He is survived by his wife, Nancy J. Wubbenhorst Black of Hawthorne; son, John Black, and daugher, Jane Gokey, both of Hawthorne; brothers, Lawrence Black of Greenville, Texas and Kenneth Black of Tulsa, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren and five great-granchildren.

A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, 18 Jul, at 1:00 p.m. at Gunter’s Funeral Home Chapel in Hawthorne. Inurnment will be at Mountain View Cemetery in Reno. Arrangements are under the direction of Gunter’s Hawthorne Funeral Home.

Borland, Herman "Humpy" McClure

Herman M. Borland, 78, a longtime Mina resident, passed away at his home on Monday, December 15, 2003. He was born in St. Paul, Minnesota on September 28, 1925, to John Archie Borland and Josie Ann McClure Borland.

Herman moved to Mina as a child in 1934 with his parents, three sisters, and one brother. He attended Mina Elementary School and Mineral County High School. Herman entered the Military in 1943 serving with the 7th Army. During World War II he saw active service in the European Theater including Italy, France, Germany, and Belgium. He was honorably discharged with the rank of T-5 in June, 1946.

After the war Herman returned to Mina, and married Ruth Perry in 1946. They lived in several Nevada communities before resettling in Mina in 1955. Herman worked both as a miner and truck driver in his youth. He went to work for Wells Cargo in 1951, and retired from there in 1978.

In Herman's younger years he enjoyed water skiing and boating with his family. Later on his interests included prospecting, and riding his ATV to look for fossils. He also enjoyed hunting, and outdoor activities. He is best remembered by many for his sense of humor and always having a new joke to tell.

Herman was a lifetime member of the Mina Fortune-Eckley-Perry V.F.W. Post 2668. He was also a member of the Hawthorne American Legion Post.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Jack Borland, his sisters, Mabel Borland, and Melba Prina, and nephews Jack Rosemark and Jackie Borland. He is survived by his daughter, Theora Jackson and her husband, Charles of Mina, his daughter, Linda Borgerson of Mina, his son, John Borland and his wife, Dawn of Spring Creek, Nevada, and his sister Alice Olenslager of Hawthorne. He is also survived by five grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one great-great granddaughter, and numerous nephews and nieces.

Born East Leicester, England 7 Dec 1862. Moved from London, England to Calgary, Canada. Wife and 4 small children died in Calgary. Moved to Washington with surviving sons, Graham and Ian. Moved to Hawthorne 1929. He was one of 11 children. Owned and managed Golden Key Drug Store until 1941. Had operated drug stores in Mason, Aurora and Mina, Nevada. In 1941 his son, Ian, took over the drug store. Mr. Bott died 13 March 1955 aged 92 yrs. His second wife had died in Hawthorne in 1932. He is survived by an elder brother, Stuart, living in Canada. BOTT, Ian H. "Jack"

Ian H. "Jack" Bott passed away at age 94 on July 4, 2000 at Mount Grant Hospital in Hawthorne. He was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, Canada on 2 May 1906 to Owen and Elizabeth Middleton Bott.

His father, Owen Bott, owned and operated drug stores in Mason, Nevada and Mina, Nevada as well as Hawthorne, which was passed on to his son "Jack".

Jack graduated from the University of California, Berkeley. He has lived in Hawthorne since 1938, moving here from Hawaii.

Hack was a life member of the Hawthorne Lions Club, life member of Hawthorne P.T.A.>, a member of Hawthorne B.P.O. Elks Lodge #1704, and was instrumental in raising funds for and building the original swimming pool at Lions Park in Hawthorne.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, brother Graham Bott, and His first wife Mary Alice. He is survived by his wife, Mary Louise Quakenbush Bott of Hawthorne; son, Terance Bott of Charlotte, North Carolina; Step-son Clifford Burrous of Santa Clara, CA; daughters, Jill Damschen of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and Drucilla Davidson of Lowell, Mass.; eight grandchildren, Bradley, Todd and Brent Damschen, Tammy Kern, Sandra McGarr, Jane Childry, Tracey Mouliason, and Christopher Burrous; and seven great-grandchildren.

As one of Nevada’s first licensed pharmacists, Mr. Bott was the owner and operator of the Golden Key Drug Store in Hawthorne which included a drugstore and pharmacy, travel agency, flower shop and Western Union and, in early years, an appliance store. Mr. Bott was a practicing pharmacist until the age of 91.

Mr. Bott requested that no wake or funeral service be held for him. In his memory, the family will host a Celebration of Life party barbecue on Saturday, July 22 at 1:00 p.m. at Lions Park in Hawthorne. All who knew him or loved him are invited.

It is requested that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Mt. Grant General Hospital.

Afater attending schools in Texas, Lena moved to Nevada in 1945 . She was a retired bookkeeper for Wells Cargo Trucking, Inc. and a member of the First Baptist Church in Hawthorne.

Lena was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Peek, Dan and George Puckett, sisters Betty Niedan and Annie May Jones, and her husband Charles Branscom in January 1964. BURFIELD, Bonnie Emogene

Bonnie Emogene Burfield, 88, died of pneumonia on Monday, 7 May 2001 at the Desert Valley Hospital in Victorville, CA. Born 28 Nov 1912 in Virgil, Missouri, she lived in Lyons, Kansas for twelve years and had lived in Barstow, CA for the past two years coming from Sun Valley, NV and Reno where she had lived since 1951.

Emogene was a bookkeeper for Harolds Club in Reno for 20 years. She attended all her school years in Hutchinson, Kansas and two years at the Salt City Business College in Hutchinson. She volunteered for the Senior Citizens Center in Reno. She belonged to the Harolds Pioneers, the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program, and was a member of the Sparks United Methodist Church in Sparks.

She loved to bowl and take care of everyone, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lloyd and Bessie Kaufman Wright, her husband, Virgil Burfield, son Roger Burfield, four brothers, Kermit, Kenneth, Ralph, and Bill Wright, and two sisters, Dorothy Wright and Bernice Herman.

Survivors include two daughters, DeVona Scott of Hawthorne, and Vicky Taylor of Bartsow, CA; one son, Ritchie Burfield of Sandy, UT; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.

Walton’s Funeral Home on Sullivan Lane in Sparks was in charge of arrangements. Burial was at the Masonic Memorial Gardens, Visitation was held Friday, 11 May, at the Funeral Home. Funeral services were held Saturday, 12 May.

Long time Nevada resident, Cora N. Byrd, age 87, passed away 2 Aug 2001 at Greenleaf Manor in Fallon, NV. Cora was born 28 Dec 1913 in Turtlecreek, PA, a daughter of Jacob and Jennie (Gibson) Glunt.

Cora has lived in Fallon for the past 28 years, having moved there from Hawthorne where she lived for 25 years. Cora received her schooling in Lakeworth, FL. She was a member of Epworth Methodist Church.

Preceding Cora in death were her parents and her husband, Elmer Byrd. She is survived by her son, Dean Byrd of Hawthorne; daughters, Janice Hazelett of Waterford, MI and Linda Thomas of Killeen TX; grandchildren, Maria, Angela, Scott, Crystal and Janell; five great grandchildren; sister, Gladys Baxter of Fallon; and brothers, Clifford and Babe Glunt, both of Florida.

Graveside services were held Tuesday, 7 Aug 2001, at Churchill County Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of The Gardens Funeral Home of Fallon.

Cantrell, William Ron

Long time Hawthorne resident William Ron Cantrell, age 83, passed away 23 Mar 2003 at his home after a long battle with cancer. Mr. Cantrell was born 26 Jan 1921 to Aaron and Pearlie Cantrell in Ophir, Kentucky.

Following graduation from high school, Mr. Cantrell attended Explosive Ordinance Disposal School and Underwater Demolition school. He was a resident of Hawthorne for 31 years after b3ing active in the Navy and living in various cities throughout the world. He retired from the Navy in 1965 after serving for 27 years.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and belonged to the USAA Retired Officers Organization.

Preceding him in death were Amos and Granny Cantrell in 1968; Pat Cantrell; Dorsey Cantrell; Ragan D. (Dary) Cantrell in 1982; Robert D. (Shorty) Cantrell in 1985; Pearlie Cantrell and Aaron Cantrell.

Surviving are his wife, Norma J. Canrtrell, and daughter RoDonna Orndorff both of Hawthorne; son, Ronald D. Cantrell (and his wife Helen) of Seattle, WA; sisters, Bonnie Jarvis of Indiana, Wilma Latrell and Dexie Skaggs; brother, Ed Cantrell (and his wife Ann) of Ohio; and grandchildren Shannon and Brandon Cantrell.

Cardinalli, Patricia Marie

She touched lives around the world. Modest in her demands, she was more than generous with others. She found time to raise a family, raise millions for charity and education and become a champion bridge player, all with intelligence and humor. She headed up charity events, fairs and found raisers in Korea and Germany, was publisher and editor of magazines and newsletters in Florida Europe, the Far East, Washington D.C. and Las Vegas, Nevada, and was a member of innumerable service organization boards and traveled extensively. She loved opera, ballet and jazz. Having grown up during the Depression, Patricia M. Cardinalli spent her life helping others in every walk of life. Mrs. Cardinalli passed away in Las Vegas, on 10 Sep 1999, after a brief illness.

Born in Pierre, South Dakota, Mrs. Cardinalli moved to Filer, Idaho before settling in Hawthonre. Her father, Darley G. DeWalt, worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot until retirement in 1963. Her mother, Gertrude, was a homemaker.

Mrs. Cardinalli graduated from Mineral County High School as class valedictorian. During her time in Hawthorne, Mrs. Cardinalli worked as a re . . . (cannot read) American Red Cross. Mrs. Cardinalli went on to the University of Nevada in Reno, obtaining a degree in journalism and graduating as the top woman graduate of 1951. She was a member of Who’s Who in American Colleges and Universities. She was a life-time member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority, serving as president of the Building Corporation and Alumni Association. She married Guy F. Cardinalli in 1952. Together, they spent the rest of their lives in the military, living in Europe, the Far East and the United States.

During her life in a military family, Mrs. Cardinalli raised two sons, Lawrence and Marc, both currently living in southern Nevada. She dedicated her life to social services and charities. Mrs. Cardinalli spent her life as a volunteer for the American Red Cross in such places as Korea, Germany, Italy, Florida, Kansas, Washington, California, Indiana and Washington D.C. She was in charge of all volunteers for the American Red Cross in Europe from 1975-1978.

Mrs. Cardinalli served on various charitable boards and was instrumental in raising in excess of $12 million during her years of service around the world. Most recently, during her time in Southern Nevada, she served as president of the Las Vegas chapter of the American Association of University Women and the Retired Officers’ Wives club, among other organizations. She was also a member of the Silver Queens Investment Club, the Chinese-American Friendship club, the University of Nevada, Las Vegas Library Advisory Board and St. Patrick’s Guild at St. Viator’s Catholic Church.

Mrs. Cardinalli will be buried in Arlington National Cemetery. A memorial and celebration of her life will be held 9 Oct 1999, at 10 a.m. at St. Viator’s Catholic Church, in Las Vegas. The family requests donations be made to the American Association of University Women - Las Vegas Education Foundation, St. Patrick’s Guild of St. Viator’s, the University of Nevada, Reno Foundation of the University of Nevada. Christopher Paul Carter, 30, a resident of Gabbs, NV passed away 7 Nov 1999 at his home. Christopher was born in Salt Lake City, Utah on November 14, 1964 to LaVern and Judith C. Roberts Carter.

Christopher graduated from Evanston High School in Evanston, Wyoming, graduated from Junior College in Rock Springs, Wyoming and also graduated from University of Southern Utah with a degree in physical education. He lived in Gabbs for four years, moving there from Beaver and Cedar City, Utah. He was a Physical Education teacher for Nye County School District in Gabbs, and taught World and American History. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Christopher was preceded in his death by his paternal grandparents.

His survivors are his parents, LaVere and Judith Carter of Beaver, Utah, brother, Anddrew Todd Carter of West Valley, Utah; and maternal grandparents H. Clive and Shirley Roberts of Salt Lake City, Utah.

Carol Christine Light-Chandler, age 81, passed away Sunday, 10 Oct 1999 at her Gabbs residence. She was born 15 Dec 1917 in Georgia to James Joseph Zachariah and Mattie Chicora Matheny Geiger.

Carol had been a Gabbs resident since 1967 coming from Amarillo, Texas. She was a retired waitress, cook. homemaker and a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Paul Light, in 1983.

She is survived by her husband, J.W. Chandler of Gabbs; daughter, Diane Moore of Elko, NV; son, Al Light of Winnemucca, NV; daughter, Sandi Lane of CO; 8 granddaughters and 4 great-grandchildren.

Mary Noone Clark, age 89, passed away on Tuesday, October 7, 2003 at her home in Carson City, NV. She was born in Goldfield, NV on July 6, 1914 to Jack Noone and Ellen Archer Noone. She graduated from Esmeralda County High School in Goldfield in 1932 and Munson College in San Francisco in 1934. She also completed course work from Western Nevada Community College.

She was a 52 year resident of Hawthorne, NV and also lived in Luning, Tonopah, and Las Vegas. She was retired from Sierra Pacific Power and Mineral County Power System. Her career centered around office administration and bookkeeping. Other organizations she served during her career included the Goldfield Deep Mines, Tonopah and Goldfield Railroad, the City of Hawthorne and the Hawthorne Utilities.

She is survived by daughter, Mary Ellen Komac and her husband Robert of Carson City; sons Jim Clark of Minden; John Clark and his wife Sharon of Las Vegas; two grandchildren, Dave Clark of Cincinnati and Susan Lynch of Las Vegas; and two great grandchildren.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, October 11, 2003 at 1:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church, 794 A St., Hawthorne, NV. Clarke, Evelyn

Evelyn Clarke, a life long resident of Hawthorne, NV, died 17 Jul 2001 at Mt. Grant General Hospital in Hawthorne, just five days short of her 54th birthday, following several years of ill health. She was born 22 Jul 1947 in Hawthorne to John P. and Amy (Smith) Clarke.

Evelyn was very active in the Mineral County Schools, having attended all grades in Hawthorne, graduating from Mineral County High School in 1965. She received her degree in teaching in 1970 from the College of Southern Utah at Cedar City, now known as Southern Utah University.

In the Fall of 1970 Evelyn joined the Mineral County School District as a teacher in the Hawthorne Primary School, teaching the first and second grades. For 31 years the students looked up to "Miss Clarke" as she was known by everyone. Throughout her years of teaching hundreds of students were taught by Evelyn and their associations were close.

For the past few years ill health curtailed her teaching activities, but she kept driving ahead to teach her children. She always stated that all her students were her very own children, she loved them so much.

Through her educational activities, Evelyn was a member of the Nevada Education Association and a past president fo the Mineral County NEA and Teachers Association. She was actively engaged in helping make Mineral County an outstanding teaching facility for everyone. She was also the Junior varsity volleyball coach for several years.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and a member of the Hawthorne Ward. She was very active in the genealogy, or family history, programs of the church. She helped organize the local genealogy library at the church and assisted in getting genealogy information to the local community library. Years of devoted service went into helping others with the family history. Members as well as non-members of the church were assisted in their quest to search out their ancestors.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her father, John P. Clarke on 9 Jun 1998. She is survived by her mother, Amy Clarke of Henrieville, Utah; two sister,s Lenora Fuller of Hawthorne and Anna Barcellos of Fort Gibson, Oklahoma; two brothers, John E. Clarke onep Clinton, Iowa and Samuel R. Clarke of Grants Pass, Oregon; 14 nieces and nehews and 7 great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services wer held Tuesday, 24 July 2001 at the Hawthorne Chapel of the LDS Church. Interment will be in the Henrieville, Utah cemetery today.

Life-long Hawthorne resident, Evelyn Clarke, passed away in Hawthorne on Tuesday, 17 Jul 2001. Evelyn was a well known school teacher in Mineral County schools, having taught here since graduating from college. She was forced to retire from teaching a few years ago because of health problems.

Services will be held Tuesday, 24 July 2001, but the time was unavailable at press time. Services will be at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints chapel.

Richalene Ann Pellett-Cline passed away Thursday, April 11, 2002 at 1am at Washoe Medical Center. She was born on Aug 27, 1953 in Hawthorne, NV. A proud graduate of Churchill County High School in Fallon in 1971.

She is preceded in death by her nephew Dennis Wayne Corkill.

She is survived by her husband Jim Cline, her loving parents Rip Pellett Sr and Osa Fae Pellett of Winnemucca; 5 children: Michelle Cline of Reno, Sherri Lyngar of Hayward, CA, Angelica Cline of Reno, James Cline of Winnemucca and Richard Cline of Alexandria, VA. Also, her sisters & brother Vivian Renfroe, Kathy Pellett, Margaret Aranguena, Connie Ramirez and Richard Pellett. Richalene had three grandchildren: Eddie, Genevieve and Abigail, and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles & cousins.

Richie was a very active member in the community. Her loving heart led to exploits including National FHA President representing the U.S., Girl Scout troop leader, local ambulance volunteer & the American Red Cross as both instructor and emergency service worker. Richalene gave loving care to the patients of Harmony Manor in Winnemucca for over 12 years and brought joy & happiness to all she came in contact with. Her warm smile & love of life will be greatly missed by all those who where fortunate enough to come to know & love her. Rest in peace Richie and know that you made an impact on this world that will not be forgotten.

Funeral services were held Monday, April 15, 2002 at the Grass Valley Baptist Church, Winnemucca, NV. Interment followed at the Winnemucca Cemetery.

Clontz, Ione Anderson

Long time resident of Hawthorne, Ione Anderson Clontz, age 82, passed through death Wednesday, September 18, 2002, at Mt. Grant General Hospital in Hawthorne. Ione was born to Clifford E. Anderson and Esther A. Lundburg Anderson on December 22, 1919 in Marathon, Iowa, where she spent her early years.

Mrs. Clontz was preceded in death by her parents, one brother Carol Anderson, her husband, and three daughters, Laurie Kay Woodworth, Charlise Marvelle Robinson, and Nadia George.

Ione, since 1942, has taught piano to a host of students, many of whom were from the Hawthorne community. She moved here in 1980, and became a member of the Church of the Nazarene where she was church musician, then going to Walker Lake Baptist Church as c church musician there, then six years ago Ione came to Macedonia Baptist Church, where she, in the winter of her years, faithfully served as church musician and ministered in many areas dedicating herself to the witnessing for Jesus Christ in the Inmate ministries, Lefa Seran Convalescent Center, and the community as a whole.

Ione is survived by a son, Tony George of Riverside, CA; a daughter, Kristie Lynne Greer of Vacaville, CA; grandchildren, Deann, Denise, David, Loren, Michael, Deon, Rachel, Tracy, Vaughn, Donna, Genesis, Derrick, Brandon, Gary, Michelle, Jenn, Tony and Kiernan; and a host of great-grandchildren; Ken Anderson and Millie Anderson, and a host of relatives in the east. Her beloved pets Chubby, Fat Boy, Shadow and her cat. Brady also survive her. Funeral services were held Sunday, September 22 at Macedonia Baptist Church in Hawthorne, followed by inurnment at Hawthorne Cemetery. Stanley E. Collins, 51, died Tuesday, 3 Jul 2001 at his Golden Valley, AZ residence.

He is survived by his mother, Bettie Sue Garner of New Mexico; daughter, Anjanette M. Young of Reno, NV; sisters, Cyndi, Susan, Sylvia and Judy of Missouri; brothers, Gary, James, Don and Larry; two grandchildren and 8 nieces and nephews.

Stanley joined the United States Marine Corps in 1968 and served a tour of duty in Vietnam. After his tour in Vietnam he was stationed in Hawthorne and Hawaii. Stanley was ranked as a Staff Sergeant when he was honorably discharged in 1976. He served a total of 8 years in the Marine Corps and one year in the Army Reserves of Missouri.

Stanley’s last occupation was as a Retail Manager and talented carpenter. His warm smile and endless generosity will be greatly missed by his many friends. The love of this father will be greatly missed by his daughter.

Dalzell, Maude Wiley

born Sweetwater, NV 8 Jan 1871, daughter of Robert and Margaret Wiley, who crossed the plains in 1864 and encountered trouble with Indians at what is now Walker Indian Reservation. Married 1896 to Robert Dalzell, and they resided at Pine Grove, NV until 1902 when they moved to Tomopah. Mr. Dalzell was active in mining at Tonopah and served as Nye County Comm. He died 1933. Since then she has resided with daughter and son-in-law, Senator and Mrs. William J. Frank, in Tonopah. In additon to Mrs. Frank, she is survived by second daughter, Mrs. Margaret Mullahey of Honolulu; a brother, Clifford S. Wiley of Nevada City, CA, and two grandsons. Aged 90 years. No death date but nd is 6 Sep 1961.

Damschen, Marvin Arthur

Marvin Arthur Damschen, 63, of Coeur d’Alene, ID died Thuesday 17 Jul 2001 at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, WA.

Marvin was born 23 Mar 1938 to Clifford and Margie (Evans) Damschen in Priest River, where he was raised. He attended Gonzaga University for one year. In 1965, he married Jill Bott of Hawthorne, NV. In 1966 he graduated from Idaho State University with a degree in pharmacy and went to work for Market Time Drug in Lewiston, ID. He owned his own pharmacy in Nexperce, ID until 1970. The family then moved to Hawthorne, where he worked at Golden Key Drug until 1976. That same year, they moved to Coeur d’Alene, where he worked for Modern Drug and Rosauer’s Pharmacy until his retirement in 1991 due to a medical disability.

He was a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and enjoyed golf, hunting, fishing and camping.

Survivors include his wife, Jill Damschen of Coeur d’Alene; sons and daughters-in-law Bradley and Emily Damschen of Ft. Lewis, WA, Todd and Elaine Damschen, and Brent Damschen, all of Coeur d’Alene; daughter and son-in-law Tammy and Mike Kern of Eagle, ID; mother, Margie Damschen and brother, Clifford Damschen, both of Spokane; sisters and brothers-in-law Lorraine and Carl Hinke, Ileta and William Doree, all of Spokane; grandchildren Ryan and Kelly Kern, Jordan, Hunter, Rhett, Kaleb, and Suane Damschen; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial was in Coeur d’Alene. Memorials may be sent to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Del Porto, Jessie Opal York

Jessie Opal York Del Porto, many year resident of Hawthorne, passed away at her home 11 Sep 1999. Jessie was the fifth of seven daughters and six sons of Martha Bruce and Lemuel York. She was born 20 Mar 1911 near Broken Arrow, OK.

She moved with the family to near Harelton, Idaho in January 1918 where she attended Dixon Grade School and graduated from Hazelton High School in 1931.

She then moved to Hawthorne and lived temporarily with her sister Mabel Pollard Humpherys.

Jessie married Felix G. Del Porto on November 25, 1931 and lived in Hawthorne until 1933 when they moved to Salt Lake City, Utah, living ther until 1939. They moved back to Hawthorne and have lived here since then. Where they raised their family of two sons and two daughters.

She was an active member of the Community Presbyterian Church, serving in many positions including Elder, Teacher, Choir Member and she always loved the Bible studies where she gathered with her friends. She was a member ofthe Pythian Sisters, the Lioness Club, and was a Charter member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. In recent years she loved to attend the Care and Share.

Her husband Felix preceded her in death on 18 May 1988. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, always helping her family and friends.

She is survived by sons, Robert (Donna) Del Porto of Hawthorne, Dennis (Lari) Del Porto of Reno; daughters, Judy (Jack) Yocum of Montgomery, Pennsylvania and Patti Del Porto of Hawthorne; six grandsons and six granddaughters, six great-grandsons, seven great-granddaughters; one sister, Dollie (Donald) Looder of Twin Falls, Idaho, one brother, Logn (Louise) York, of Clackamas, OR; a sister-in-law, Viola York of Twin Falls, Idaho; a brother-in-law, Dan (Rose) Del Porto of Yerington, Nevada; and many nieces and nephews.

She was a wonderful lady and will be greatly missed by family and friends. Services will be held Thursday, 16 Sep 1999, at the Presbyterian Church located at 7th and F Streets at 11:00 a.m.

Jack L. DeMars was born in Yerington, Nevada on August 26, 1939 to Arthur and Mabel DeMars of Hawthorne, Nev. Jack spent most of his earlier years in Hawthorne, attending Mineral County Schools, and the past 20 years was in the Carson Valley area where he owned and managed several hunting clubs. Jack loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was very active in the Sierra Nevada Retriever Club and loved spending time with his beloved dog, Jake. He was preceded in death by his father, Art DeMars and a brother, Sonny DeMars. He is survived by his friend and former wife, Nita DeMars of Carson City; daughter, Debbie Nicholson of Carson City, Nev.; son, Vance DeMars of Sparks, Nev.; two grandsons, Jacob and Garrett Nicholson of Carson City; two step-children, Skip DeLashmutt of Redding, Calif.; and Lori DeLashmutt of Clearlake, Calif.; step-granddaughter, Raycie Delashmutt; mother, Mabel DeMars of Hawthorne, Nev.; sisters, Mabel Creech of Hawthorne and Patty Willburn of Bremerton, Wash.; brothers, Tom DeMars of Hawthorne, Nev.; Fred DeMars of Sparks, Nev.; Eddie DeMars of Dayton, Nev.; and Danny DeMars of Bremerton, Wash.; and numerous nieces and nephews. Mrs. Cora Fern DeMars, 99, a resident of Hawthorne since 1948, who has been residing at the Carson City Convalescent Home, passed away on Tuesday, November 16, 1999.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph A. DeMars, in 1960; her daughter, Mere J. Grant; sons, Reo D. DeMars and Jean A. DeMars.

She is survived by sons Joseph M. DeMars of Wadima, Minnesota, Everett L. DeMars of Uyma, Arizona and Gary J. DeMars of Hawthorne. She had fourteen grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren.

Denny, Margaret Cecilla Fogarty

Margaret Cecilla Fogarty Denny, 91, a former resident of Hawthorne, entered into rest on Saturday, November 13, 1999, in Folsom, CA.

A native of Butte, Montana she was born September 1, 1908, to Joseph and Margaret Morrissey Fogarty and had lived in Folsom, CA since 1989, moving there from Hawthorne, NV where she had lived for 42 years. She spent the first 39 years of her life in Butte, moving to Nevada in 1947. Margaret was a homemaker.

Preceding her in death was her devoted and loving husband, Frank "Chopper" Denny, in 1979; son, George Denny in June 1999 and granddaughter, Delinda Denny.

She is survived by her loving twin brother, Matthew Fogarty of Butte, Montana; son, Douglas Denny and his wife Martha of Lodi, CA; daughters, Janet Moyle and her husband Calvin of Winnemucca, NV, and Darlene Geisinger and her husband Ken of Folsom. "Gram" was a dored by her grandchildren, Michael Denny, Dianna Dotson, Lori Moyle, Craig Moyle, Lisa Friend, Patty Beck, Jason Denny, Jennifer Denny, and 11 great-grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed. Goodbye Gram, we love you.

Despres, John Leonard "Jack" Sr.,

John Leonard "Jack" Despres, Sr., age 60, of Hawthonre, died 29 Sep 1999 at Mt. Grant General Hospital. He was born in Marlborough, Massachusetts on 19 Dec 1938 to Leonard J. Despres and Dorothy H. Kane Despres.

He has been a resident of Hawthorne for the past year, coming here from Layton, Utah. He lived a life of helping people and was a retired Texas Peace Officer, Forest Fire Ranger for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and also an Emergency Medical Technician and Ambulance driver.

He was a member of the Catholic Church. Preceding him death were his father in 1976 and mother in 1997.

Surviving Jack are his wife, Kay Sawyer Despres of Hawthorne; sons, John L. Jr. of Ogden, Utah and ScottJ. of Milbury, Massachusetts; daughters, Colleen A. Lavallee of Northbridge, Massachusetts and Sherri Kauker of Taunton, Massachusetts; sisters, Lenore Bixby of Brimfield, Massachusetts, Beverly Dunn and Linda Channell, both of VeroBeach, Florida. Sharon Bickford and Diadra Babb both of Whitnsville, Massachusetts; ten grandchildren; an aunt, Rosemary Despres, and uncle, Louis Depres, both of Hawthorne; and 57 nieces and nephews.

Private inurnment will be held at a later date. Cremation was under the direction of Gunter’s Funeral Home in Hawthorne. nd 6 Oct 1999

Dike, Lula J.

Lula "Lou" J. Dike passed away on August 18, 2003 at Mount Grant General Hospital in Hawthorne, NV, just shy of her 97th birthday. She was born in San Diego, CA, on September 19, 1906 to Paul and Ina Mae Gibbs. She graduated from Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in San Diego with the Class of 1928 and worked as a registered nurse. She had been a resident of Hawthorne since 1931.

Lou was preceded in death by her husband Wesley to whom she was married for sixty-three years, her only sibling, William Gibbs, and a granddaughter.

Lou was one of the first members of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary in Hawthorne, a sixty year member of the Mt. Grant Chapter No. 24 Order of Eastern Star where she had served in every capacity to include Worthy Matron. She was also a member of the Care and Share

Surviving Mrs. Dike are Roy Wesley Dike and wife Christina of Corona, CA; James Alvin Dike and wife Gail of Enterprise, OR; and daughter Nancy Teresa Beavers and husband John of Hawthorne, NV; 19 grandchildren, more than 30 great grandchildren, and a host of friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 22 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Hawthorne at 2:00 p.m. under the direction of Gunter's Funeral Home in Hawthorne.
