of Mina; born Montezuma, NV near Goldfield, 22 Mar 1888. Married to Edythe A. Vidovich. Was blacksmith for Southern Pacific RR. Also worked in SPRR Sparks Shops several years. Transferred 1928 to Mina. Also was Deputy Sheriff of Mineral County for 17 years. Died at Hawthorne 18 Jun 1960, buried Mina 21 Jun 1960. His brothers Jerry and Jim have both served as police officers. Andy is still Justice of the Peace at Schurz, NV. One brother, "Jerry" Jerome, lives at Schurz; Andrew also lives Schurz; James lives at Stewart, NV. One sister, June Charick, of Schurz. One son, Boddy J. of Mina. Three stepchildren, Ivy Leyva, Raymond Joe and Leona Joe of Mina.

Vigil, Ofrecinia

Ofrecinia Vigil, age 77, passed away on December 7, 1999 in Sacramento, CA. She was born in Cerro, New Mexico on July 7, 1922, a daughter of Armante and Emma Cortez Quintana.

She lived in Rancho Cordova, CA, since 1997, moving there from Hawthorne where she had lived since 1950. She lived in Cerro, New Mexico from her birth until moving to Hawthorne.

Ofrecinia was a homemaker, and she loved to cook, crochet, quilting, crafts and her family. Her religious affiliation was Catholic.

Preceding her in death were her husband, Gaspar I. Virgil in August 1997, and son Michael in January 1996. Survivors are her sons, Anthony G. (wife Leslie) Vigil, Johnny Vigil, and Gaspar G. (Penny) Vigil; daughters, Mary Vigil, Maria L. (Eugene) Bell and Debra C. (Geoff Blewitt) Vigil; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, December 18, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, Hawthorne. Burial will follow at Hawthorne Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Gunter’s Hawthorne Funeral Home. MCIN:15 Dec 1999

WADDELL, Newell Ryder

Newell Ryder Waddell, 75, of Hawthorne, passed away on Thursday, 3 May 2001 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Reno, Nevada.

He was born 4 Aug 1925 in Lemoyne, Pennsylvania to Walter and Lucretia Waddell.

Newell was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, his brothers, John and William, and his son, Patrick. He is survived by his wife "Bride" Anne of Hawthorne; borther, Walter Waddell of New Cumberland, PA; sister, Helen Wyatt of Loves Parks, IL; sons, Michael Waddell of Emmaus, PA, and Andrew McCormick of Tustin, CA; daughters, Rebecca Forbes of Lake Oswegu, OR; Elaine Brown of Lauderhill, FL; and Alisa McCormich of Belmont Shore, CA; grandchildren, Jennifer and Mark Waddell and Scotland and Britain Forbes.

In lieu of flowers, "Newt" requested a simple act of kindness in his memory and no funeral service.

Walker, Deseree M.

Deseree M. Walker 20, resident of Gabbs, died Thursday, (12 Jul 1979) of injuries suffered in an automobile accident in Gabbs.

Born 5 Mar 1959 in Reno, she was a student at the University of Nevada-Reno.

She was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta Sorority at UNR and was a tour guide for the National Park Service in Gabbs.

Survivors include her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert J. Walker of Gabbs; a sister, Sheryl Wakefield, of Gabbs; a sister, Debra Martin, of Fernley; a grandmother, Mrs. Mary Foster of Fallon, and three aunts and two nieces.

Recitation of the rosary was last Sunday in Austin’s Funeral Home in Fallon. A funeral mass was held Monday in St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fallon. Burial was in the Fallon Cemetery. nd 19 Jul 1979

Waters, James W. "Jack"

James W. "Jack" Waters, a resident of Walker Lake Community, died 5 Dec 1989, at Washoe Medical Center.

He was born on 5 Jan 1917, in Mine La Motte, Missouri. When very young his family moved to Nederland, CO. Later they moved to Norwalk, CA, where he joined the navy in October 1939. He served active duty until May 1961, when he then transferred to the Fleet Reserve. He went to work for Civil Service in Jun 1961. He retired from the navy after 30 years of service in Nov 1969. He continued working for civil service at Long Beach Naval shipyard until June 1972.

He and his family then moved to Walker Lake where he was self employed for a number of years and became known as "Jack of All Trades", taking time to help friends, and neighbors in every way he could.

He is survived by his widow, Mary, of Walker Lake, one son, Dale, of Bellflower, CA, one daughter, Melodie Abrams, of Hawthorne; one brother, Robert, of Princeton, TX; and six grandchildren.

Jack was a member of First Southern Baptist Church, Hawthorne. No services are scheduled. Cremation was at Mountain View Crematory, Reno, under the direction of Hawthorne Funeral Home.

Watson , Fred

Fred Watson, born in Minot, North Dakota on September 8, 1905, made his transition on October 28, 2002 in Hawthorne, Nevada. Fred was 97.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Winifred; his daughter, Joan; his brother, Dr. Carl A. Watson and his beloved wife, Magda of Reno, Nev.; his brother, Harry Watson of Phoenix, Ariz.; his sister in law, Marion Harmeier of Alhambra, Calif.; two nephews, Robert Watson and Ronald Watson and Joan's fiance, Erik Hockmeyer of Nevada City, California.

Fred lived a rich and colorful life as a gifted musician, cowboy, gold miner and heavy duty equipment operator. He was a WWII Veteran. During his married life he was employed by the Naval Ammunition Depot in Hawthorne. Fred was an independent thinker, a man of highest integrity, and steadfast in his love for family and friends.

His passing is a great loss to all those who knew him.

Watts, Bernard

HAWTHORNE, Nev. - At his request, no services were held for former Casper resident Bernard Watts, 74, who died Sept. 15, 2004, in Hawthorne.

Cremation took place.

Born July 12, 1930, in West Virginia, he was the son of Forester and Hazel (Smith) Watts.

On Oct. 10, 1953, he married Thelma Mitchell.

They moved from Detroit to Casper in 1959. He was a disc jockey for KVOC Radio and began playing country music with his band, The 4W Ranch Boys, at the Beacon Club in Mills.

In the early 1960s, he purchased the Beacon Club; and, in the early 1970s, purchased the Sage Club in Evansville. After selling both clubs in the latter part of the 1970s, he bought two Ramada Inns in Cheyenne and Longmont, Colo. During the 1980s, he sold those and moved to Nevada, where he lived for 25 years.

Survivors include two daughters, Bernardine Blasucci of Fort Myers, Fla., and Judy K. Solon of Longview, Wash.; stepdaughter, Sheila Stout of Las Vegas; three brothers, Clyde of North Carolina, Don of West Virginia and Doug of Ohio; two sisters, Eloise Twinem and Jean Hutchinson, both of Ohio; six grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and three step-great-grandchildren.

Lorene F. Webster, 86, of Hawthorne, Nevada since 1939, died June 25, 2002, in Reno. She was a member of American Legion Aux. Post #19, and Life member of V.F.W. Aux. #2313. She graduated from Round Mountain High School in Round Mountain, NV.

A Practical Nurse for Nye County in Tonopah for 26 years. A member of the St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Fallon, NV.

Preceded in death by her husband, brother, Henick Smith. Survived by her daughters Lucile Rae Magers of Fallon and Gardenia Ann Cramer of Bargersville, IN. Grandchildren, Terry Lynn and James Richard Cramer, Debra C. Flowers and DeLenne Magers; 3 great grandchildren.

John Calvin Whitten,, 49, a resident of Hawthorne, died November 17, 1999 at Mt. Grant General Hospital. John was born in Columbus, Mississippi on November 2, 1950, a son of Clarence C. and Bobbie N. Burgess Whitten.

John has lived in Hawthorne for 47 years, having lived briefly in Mississippi and Alabama.

John was preceded in death by his father on December 7, 1979. He is survived by his mother, Bobbie Streicher of Kingman, Arizona; brothers, Chuck Whitten of Hawtorne and David Whitten of Peoria, Arizona; Aunts, Jean Adkins of Fallon, Nevada and Elaine Elwell of Tooele, Utah; also numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins in Alabama, Illinois, Utah, Nevada and Arizona.

Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband Gene, her parents; her sister Jeannie; and nephew Larry Bud Blaylock, Jr.

Gerald was born Nov. 18,1954 in Schurz to Dorothy Patterson and Roy Williams.

Gerald is preceded in death by his mother, father, grandparents, one sister and one brother. Survivors include sister Rachel Mason, Brenda Sam and Kristine Bob; brothers James Scott Jr., David A. Scott, Leroy Williams Sr., Cliff Williams Sr., Kenny Williams, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Memorial services and burial will be held on June 23 at the Baptist Mission Church at 11 a.m. in Fishlake Valley, Nev.

Williams, Louis

Louis Williams, 85, of Pasture Road in Schurx, NV died on 18 Oct 1999 at the Washoe Medical Center in Reno, Washoe, NV.

He is a native of Bodie, CA and was born 1 Dec 1913, to Murphy and Mamie Jones Williams. He has lived in Schurz for many years, coming from Bodie. MR. Williams was a self employed farmer and rancher at his farm in Schurz.

During World War II he served with the US Army in the infantry and he was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Post in Hawthorne.

Mr. Williams is survived by his widow, Helen Williams of Schurz; eleven children; Gloria Williams, Claudia, NV, Lyle Williams, Wayne Williams, Sharon Henry, Loni Wahweah, Darrell Smokey and Willis Smokey, all of Schurz; Betty Flint and Fritz Smokey, both of Gardnerville, NV and Marlene Wahpah of Carson City, NV. He has eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren ; four brothers, Clarence Williams of Washoe Valley, NV, Everett Williams of Carson City, NV, Jack Williams of Hawthorne and Erin Williams of Fallon, NV and one sister, Dolores Birchum of Schurz.

Funeral services were held Saturday, 23 Oct 1999 at the Schurz Tribal Gymnasium with burial in the Schurz Indian Cemetery at Schurz.

WILLIAMS, Rodney George

Rodney George Williams passed away at age 69 on 20 Jul 2000 at Mount Grant general Hospital in Hawthorne. Rodney was born in Eureka, Utah on 27 Sep 1930 to George Cecil Williams and Lavern Runnels.

He was raised in Rockford, Idaho and South Salt Lake City, Utah. Rodney’s left hand was paralyzed in a childhood accident, but he never considered himself disabled in any way and always worked hard and never complained.

Rodney lived in Hawthorne for two years coming from Tonopah, Nevada. He worked as a manager in Paint and Hardware stores. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Preceeding rodney in death were his father, his wife Lorraine in 1974, and son Roy Galloway. Survivors of Rodney are his daughters, Carilyn Llewellyn of Tonopah, Marilyn Beesley, of Yucca Valley, CA, and Lora Cox of Anaheim, CA; mother, Lavern Williams of St. George, Utah; son, John Holt of Hawthorne; sisters, Betty McCarty and Dawna Farrell, both of St. George, Utah; 12 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.

Wilson , Dorothy Jane

Dorothy Jane (Lee) Wilson, age 79, went home with her Lord Jesus on Saturday, September 27, 2003, in Winnemucca.

She was born in Amazonia, MO on January 19, 1924, to Charlie Clarence and Ada Mabel Kelly Lee, and was raised in and around Rosendale, MO. Dorothy moved to central Nevada in 1952 with her family. She lived in Gabbs, NV for 35 years and in Winnemucca for the past 8 years. While in Gabbs, she worked for the Post Office and retired from there as Post Master in 1989. She also served as Justice of the Peace there for 6 years. She made headlines when in one election, she and her opponent tied in votes. They went to the county seat, Tonopah, where they flipped a silver dollar to see who would be J.P. for the term. Dorothy called and won the flip. She was also a life member of the Gabbs Ladies VFW Auxilliary.

She was preceded in death by husband, Paul R. Wilson; her parents; 2 sisters; a brother and a granddaughter. Surviving are daughters Paulette (Les) Puliti of Reno; Neva (Karl) Ikehorn of Gabbs; son, Clarence Robert (Nancy) Wilson of Winnemucca; sisters, Esther Weber of St. Joseph, MO and Lee Routh of Fayetteville, GA. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren and 11 step great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, October 2, at 2:00 p.m. at the Smith Family Funeral Home Chapel, 505 Rio Vista Dr., Fallon, NV. Visitation will begin at 12 noon. Interment will be in the Fallon Cemetery. Following the grave committal, a reception will be held at the funeral home reception rooms.

Allen Richard Wilson, a 30-year resident of Carson City, Nevada, died at his home on Monday, March 03, 2003. He was 63.Allen was born on August 22, 1939 in Ogden, Utah to Elliott (Ed) Alford Wilson and Clara Victoria Wilson. Allen, a 1963 graduate of the University of Nevada who earned his Master's degree in electrical engineering from UNR in 1966, was president of Sierra Control Systems, Inc., which he founded in 1972. Sierra Control Systems mainly services the municipal water industry through the design, manufacture and installation of electronic water monitoring and control systems. Allen was an involved church member of First Presbyterian Church of Carson City, where he served as an elder and chaired the buildings and grounds, stewardship and administrative committees. Allen is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carol; two sons, Dennis Wilson and his wife Jamie of Sparks, Nevada and Mike Wilson and his wife Annette Schlageter of North Potomac, Md.; daughter, Patty Joyce and her husband Robin of Las Vegas; sister, Joyce Soule and her husband Gary of Reno; brother, James Wilson and his wife Margaret of Johnson City, Tennessee; and eight grandchildren, Sarah, Kathryn, Ellen, Jillian, Miles, Sydney, Summer and Kimberly. A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at the First Presbyterian Church Family Life Center at the corner of Nevada and Musser Streets on Saturday, March 8 beginning at 1 PM. The family suggests that contributions in Allen's memory be made to the First Presbyterian Church Building Fund in care of First Presbyterian Church, 306 West Musser Street, Carson City, Nevada 89703. Bryan Kent Wofford, age 33, passed away December 11, 1999 at Washoe Medical Center in Reno, Nevada. Bryan was born in Sacramento, California on June 10, 1966, a son of Robert K. and Christi A. Wofford.

Bryan graduated from Zweibrucken American High School, Germany, and served five years in the US Army. He lived in Stead, Nevada the past five years, moving there from San Antonio, Texas.

Bryan was a carpenter, glass mason and a professional guitarist.

Survivors are his parents, Robert K. and Christi A. Wofford of Hawthorne; children, Ahren Kent and Rachel Ann Wofford of Sparks, Nevada; brother, Scott B. Wofford of Reno, Nevada; and sister Brandi L. Wofford of South Carolina.

Wroblewski, Mathew

Mathew Wroblewski, 81, of Schurz, Nevada, passed away at St. Mary's Hospital, Wednesday, October 23, 2002. He was born to Ignatius Wroblewski and Mary Wielock June 16, 1921, in Erie County, New York.

Mathew and his wife lived in Reno and Verdi area from 1954 to 1978, and owned and operated the Crystal Trailer Park in Verdi, Nev. From 1978 to 1988, they lived in Imlay, Nevada. From 1988 to present they lived in Schurz, Nevada where they owned and operated the Road Runner Inn.

Mathew was retired from the U.S. Air Force and served in WWII and Korea from 1942 to 1964.

Survived by his wife, Clara; sons, Scott and Matt of Reno, Nev.; sister, Sophia Cubja of New York. Three grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Wroblewski , Mathew D.

Mathew D. Wroblewski, 54, of Reno, Nevada, died Saturday, November 16, 2002, at Schurz, Nevada.

He lived in Reno since 1954 coming from Japan and Northern California. Mathew was the music Minister at the Unity Church of Reno where he was also a member. He was a past member of the local band, The Surflords. He was a Class of '66 Reno High School graduate and worked for the US Bureau of Mines in Reno for 17 years as a Metallurgist and Sierra Environment Monitoring as a chemist.

Preceded in death by his father, Mathew, October 23, 2002. Survivors include his mother, Clara of Schurz, Nevada; 2 daughters, Tierney L. McClary and Lalena Jankowski, both of Reno; brother, Scott of Reno; 1 niece and 4 grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, 2:00 PM, at Unity Church of Reno, 2207 Kings Row, Reno, Nev. A Visitation will be at the Mountain View Mortuary, 425 Stoker Ave., Reno, also on Friday, Nov. 22, 2002, from noon - 1:30 PM. Interment will be private at the Northern Nevada Veterans Cemetery in Fernley, Nevada.

Wynn, Roland Burns

Roland Burns Wynn, a resident of Hawthorne the past 36 years, died Thursday, (30 Nov 1989), at Washoe Medical Center in Reno. He was a retired civil service worker and was a member of the First Baptist Church in Hawthorne.

Mr. Wynn was born in Eureka Springs, Arkansas on February 19, 1924 and grew up there. After attending school, he served in the US Army for three years in an infantry division. His tour of duty was in the Philippine Islands during WWII.

After being honorably discharged from the Army, Mr Wynn returned to his home town, and like his father he became a licensed pipefitter after completing vocational training. He worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot in the plumbing department for 27 years. He retired from civil service in 1980.

On October 5, 1946, Roland married Marie Parker, also a native of Eureka Springs. The couple had four children, Janis Scott, Joyce Schaaf and David Wynn, all of Hawthorne, and Jeanette Childress of Matthews, North Carolina.

Other survivors in addition to his wife and children are sisters, Betty Houston of Gabbs, Nell Burrell of Los Angeles, CA and Marilyn Wilson of Eureka Springs, Arkansas; also three grandchildren; Heather Childress, Brian Scott and Corinna Scott; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his mother and father, sister, Bell Brown, and brother Johnson Wynn.

Services were conducted Monday afternoon at Hawthorne Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. Gregory Sanders, pastor of First Baptist Church, and burial was in Hawthorne Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorne Funeral Home. nd 6 Dec 1989

Zane , Alvina K.

Alvina K. Zane, 89, of Hawthorne, Nev., died December 29, 2001.

Moved to Hawthorne in 1942, coming from Washington, D.C. Retired from the Hawthorne Naval Ammunition Depot.

Surviving step-son, David Donald Turner of Carson City, Nevada.

Inurnment services at the Hawthorne Cemetery at a later date directed by Gunter's Funeral Home, Hawthorne.

born Garnet, Montana 7 Apr 1901. Married to Grace Cavanaugh Zindars of Tonopah and Goldfield. Veteran WWI, two years combat duty in France. Died at Hawthorne 19 Aug 1953, aged 52 years. Had previously lived in Amarillo, Texas and Sodaville, Mina and Hawthorne, NV. Survived by one son, John Jr., one sister, Mrs. Jack Zehren of North Sacramento, CA

Zugnoni, Margaret Mary

Zugnoni, Margaret Mary died in Stollwood Convalescent Hospital, Woodland Wednesday, May 15, 2002, at age 86. Born Feb. 21, 1916, in Goldfield, Nev. Mrs. Zugnoni was the daughter of the late John and Margaret Lynch. She was a long-time resident of the Easy Bay who moved to Woodland two years ago following a stroke. She was a graduate of Presentation High School of Berkeley, class of 1933, and of the

University of California at Berkeley College of Commerce (School of Business Administration), class of 1937. She worked as a bookkeeper for firms in San Francisco and the East Bay for 21 years before retiring in 1981. She was a catechism teacher at Saint Ambrose Church, Berkeley and an officer of the Mother's Club at School of the Madeleine, Berkeley. According to the family members, "She enjoyed traveling in the U.S. and Europe with her husband, vacationing with family members in Twain Harte and caring for and visiting with her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren." Mrs. Zugnoni is survived by her husband of 59 years, Emil Zugnoni; daughter, Mary McCurdy and husband Gary of Woodland; son, John Zugnoni and wife Jeanette of Alameda; grandchildren, Paul Zugnoni and wife Sophie, David Zugnoni, Emily Zugnoni, Gina Preciado, Daniel McCurdy and wife Yujung and Patricia Moore and husband Jerry; and great-grandchildren, Justin McCurdy and Jessica Moore. She was preceded in death by her sister, Betty (as a child); and brother, John in 1968. Visitation is scheduled from 4 to 7 p.m., Sunday, May 19, at Chapel of the Chimes, 4499 Piedmont Ave. in Oakland, telephone number (510) 654-0123). A vigil will be held at 7 p.m. A funeral mass is scheduled to be said at noon Monday, May 20, at St. Ambrose Church, 1145 Gilman St. in Berkeley.The family requests memorials be directed to Yolo Wayfarer Mission, P.O.
