The group is responsible for performing assessment, development and application of technology associated with the utilization of biomass and coal as fuels.
The group activities are primarily directed toward research on coal combustion and utilization technology. To support its coal research program, the group has recently acquired new advanced coal research facilities consisting of Chemical Analytical Laboratory, Coal Preparation Facilities and Pulverized Coal Firing Facilities. These facilities are now being used for research activities within the group as well as for providing technical services to industrial clients.
Other activities include coal database and data management analysis software development, fluidized bed combustion technology, experimental studies on coal briquetting, preliminary studies on coal water mixture, coal gasification, coal liquefaction, and related flue gas and particulate measuring.
