Chemical
Analytical Laboratory
The Chemical Analytical
Laboratory is equipped with various equipment and instrument for performing
basic coal characteristic analysis.
Among those are : Atomic
Absorption Spectrophoto-meter,Thermo Gravimetry Analysis (TGA7), Differential
Thermal Analyzer, Ash Fusion Analyzer, Gas Chromato-graphy equipment, Sulphur
Analyzer, Ultimate and Proximate Analyzer, Bomb Calorimeter, Testing Sieve
Shaker, Ashing Furnaces, Particle sizes, Equipment for measurement of Hard
Grove Index and BET Surface Area, ect. With the available equipment and
capable personnel, most of chemical analysis for coals, and also for ather
fuels can be done in this laboratory.
Coal
Briquetting
The preliminary experimental
studies for briquetting have been carried out to determine how burning
quality is influenced by the following process variables : Coal size and
type/rank, amount and quality of binder, the conditions of mixing , tempering
and pressing, quality and strength of briquettes, the optimum size and
the the shape of the briquettes, the burning and physical characteristics
of the briquettes, type of cooking ovens used, type and concentration of
exhaust gases or emission.
Although the current briquetting
experimental studies are still the alboratoey scale, it is expacted that
there will be a pilot scale demonstration plant of briquette production
in the immediate future with collaboration of coal briquette indistries.
